I really don't think this will make Linux take off in the home/desktop market. Linux is simply too immature for the general public. Sure, geeks everywhere think it's fun to fiddle around to get everything to work, but your average user doesn't. If people have trouble with Windows, I can't imagine ...

A way to raise mouse sensitivity on D1 running on old comp?

I'm running Descent on an old P200 MMX with an SB AWE64. Gives the right old school feel, if you know what I mean. 8) Anyway, the mouse sensitivity is very low and I was wondering if there is any way to raise the sensitivity of the original version.

I have the exact same problem with my AC97 equipped laptop. HL2 works extremely bad (worst of all my games) and most of the others have that nasty little stutter (the picture stutters, not the sound) just before a sound effect is about to be played. A PCMCIA Audigy will rid this problem. I have ...

No, you don't need an anti static bag to ship a laptop. There are no exposed electronics that could be damaged, really. My laptop came in what looked like a perfectly ordinary, fully transparent plastic bag.

Ohh, sorry. I didn't catch that you had pin-pointed the problem to other equipment. :)

Read my first post for reasons of a WLAN connection being instable/lossy. Sure it wasn't just the equipment? Maybe there are differences between equipment sold in Sweden and Germany? I have used WLAN exclusively since July. I have a Linksys WLAN router that covers a 200 square meter house ...

Worse, though, is the lossy nature of the connection. Would you care to elaborate? If the ping is more or less the same and the data arrives intact (which it does!), what other problems can be noted by the end user? Well, I guess the connection could be unstable, but that's rarely a problem with ...

That actually all depends on how good your airflow is. If you're stuck with a cheap case, and a vid card that comes within inches of your hard drive(s), then yeah its definitely an issue. However, most of your good cases take that into consideration and have fan mounts or have the hard drive bays ...

Yeah, but the thing is, people running these high end cards are going to be running atleast 450 - 500W power supplies to begin with. Power isn't going to be an issue for people with that kind of cash. No, I didn't mean that the PSU would be much of a problem (if you have one good enough). It's the ...

Can be well taken care of if you place your fans correctly, thereby optimizing airflow. OR you can go watercooling. Heat issue? what heat issue? Ohh, I know a thing or two about this, having built quiet computers for quite some time. My point is that it isn't enough just putting the fans in the ...

About the SLI issue: It has some pretty large drawbacks. A side from the quite valid points that Mobius brought up, I'd add a couple of highly relevant ones: - Adding an extra card, like another 7800GTX, will add a significant amount of extra heat to the system. It's probably not a very good idea to ...

Making Descent support CD audio?

I just thought of a great addition to Descent 1: CD audio! Then we could just put the D1 PSX tracks on a CD and have them play in-game. What do you think? Would this be hard to accomplish? Since D2 supports CD audio, wouldn't it be possible to reuse some/all of that code? I'm not good enough at ...

The music in D2 trailer and the MAC version!?

Hi guys! I'm a great fan of the Descent 1/2 music and I've searched quite some time for somewhat rare versions of the original D1 midi tracks. First of all, the D2 trailer that was released as a sneek peek back in '95 or '96 featured a great version of the music from level two in D1. In which ...

Definately Descent 2. Descent 1 is almost as good. I'm a big fan of singleplayer and haven't played much multiplayer in Descent 1/2/3, mostly because my pals suck at it. Anyway, the reasons I don't like Descent 3 looking at it from a singleplayer perspective are many: - Music really, really sucks ...
