Rama series by Arthur C. Clarke.
Epic, rich, character-driven and quite rewarding.
Nexus graphic novels are also a lot of fun.
Favorite Sci-Fi/Fantasy books/series.

The Seafort Series by David Feintuch.
It is currently at 7 books, and an announced 8th manuscript has been finished by this wonderful author. (No press or release date yet, though.) For fans of Military SciFi, I strongly recommend reading these books!
Midshipman's Hope, Challenger's Hope, Prisoner's Hope, Fisherman's Hope, Voices of Hope, Patriarch's Hope, and Children of Hope are the currently released titles, for anyone interested.
