Why I like the Descent BB.
Why I like the Descent BB.
We been having lists of stuff going on here for a while about people on the DBB, but we never give credit where it's due. Lets all list reasons why we like this bulliten board so much over other ones. I've been on this thing for almost 5 years now and it's the ONLY one of it's kind that I know of.
Anyways, my reasons are these:
1) No 500 page threads.
2) No jackasses with their 3 letter reply and 40 line signature.
3) Easy on the eyes.
Among others of course. But, contrary to popular belief, I'm not going to steal the show.
Peace-

i like it coz i know the ppl here.
and there arn't too many that you get lost in the waves. well compared to other forums anyway - my head reels as it tries to wrap around all the ppl at other places.
some places you post there and ppl are more often to competely ignore you because you are new (suspecting you will leave again in a few days). that creeps me out.

The overall tone is different here than any other BB I've been to. Newcomers who arrive realize the smart/take no bull★■◆● attitude of everyone, and instead of trying to disrupt it (which would get them pimp slapped) they fall into it. It is just a totally different environment, and it is great.
And you can't forget the Good News/Bad News thread
And me being stupid.
And me being reduntant.
And me going to sleep now.
You stay classy DBB

I love this board. I can't really explain why. Perhaps it just feels like home. Perhaps it's force of habit. My old profile says I joined 17, April, 2000, thereby becoming the 724th member of the DBB. That's 5 1/2 years of reading and posting here.
I do love the way the board looks. The lack of clutter is very nice. The color scheme is nice too. And of course, for the most part, the people are very nice as well. Long live the DBB!

Word Sting, another thing about the DBB is the average grammar level here is about 5-10 times better then most other internet forums. It's nice to come here and read something closely resembling English instead of engrish. Mobius should have a look at some other forums before he posts his next grammar nazi comment here.
Aside from a very few jaded people, the previous posts pretty much nailed it on the head. Much more mature atmosphere, no AOL-like behavior. For once I dont actually feel dumb while talking to some of the people here than if I participated in for example www.mektek.net/forums where the people there seem like they are all under 13. Cant even get a decent discussion on stuff like politics. One line replys and having to scroll through 5-line signatures really irk me.

Very, very true. I'm also a frequent visitor of Hard Light Productions, and let's just say that politics/religion topics tend to degrade into flamefests within about ten minutes of their posting there.Lothar wrote:This is the only forum I've been on where you can talk about politics and religion without (usually) having a flamewar.
The DBB is the greatest bunch of bunch of people assembled in one place that I've ever come across online; in the immortal words of the Tiny Toon Adventures theme song, "we're all a little looney," and we all seem to fit together to increase the overall craziness. Everyone here has a high degree of intelligence (even Mobius, on occasion, shows it ), and there's a really great sense of community. We really have something special in the DBB, something that sets us apart from the rest of the Internet. It's an honor being a part of that something.

I like the DBB because most users seem to have an actual brain, as opposed to a make-believe one. (Often these brains are poorly programmed - but the presence of an actual brain more than makes up for that.)
I like the way users generally don't quote entire posts in their reply. Oh, wait...
The intellectual tone of the DBB is somewhat higher than many forums I visit, and the depth of knowledge on a wide range of subjects is a step ahead of most other locations.
There's very little in the way of flamewars goes on - and despite my regular outbursts about poor spelling and grammar, and subsequent "retailiations" I still enjoy it.
The Tech Forum is frequented by people who actually have answers.
Most posters with problems actually post relevant information, and don't post stuff like:
Overall, I give the DBB 9/10.

I like the fact that I have been warned by exciter like only 3 times in 5 years of posting here.
Considering the fact that I will post while on $100 dollars of booze money just to see if I can understand what I wrote the next day. Iâ??d say that makes exciter a really mellow cat. Every time he has warned me has been totally reasonable. It gives me confidence in this board.
Though, we haven't really got into the "how to make a married woman cum from across the table" threads.

And guys, I think one of the main reasons this forum is great is because we all share a common interest. But even more than that, it is the interest itself that results in excellent people. People will usually have to be older than younger to be playing Descent because it is slightly old (for how fast games are progressing these days) and D3, the most recent game, wasn't very well marketed. Older people = more people who are mature/know each other. This causes a great environment. And the envrioment is so strong that when people discover Descent, and enter the DBB, they catch the mood and contribute to it.
Plus, to add on to my maturity statement, we are all simply cooler than everyone else, therefore all of us in one place means uber great spot!

And:
- the custom emoticons like (I lub the 'wink' one the best!)
- the overall intellectual atmosphere as already said
- it's been around a long, long time!
- it has a nice three-letter acronym
- the quirky humor
- unique personalities you can always count on for entertainment, like Mobius and AceCombat for example
