omg i can't beleive this thing is still going!!!
ok ... so i played D1 on Kali back in the day ... reconnecting every 15 minutes faithfully for about 6 months ... until D2 came out and i finally shelled out my $20 for Kali registration ... and became obsessed... joined the {DMC} ... played for spurts of when i got home from school... to when i went back to school the next day ... sometimes just skipping the whole school part to play and play and play!!! now after many years of obsession with the game... around the time D3 came out and my hardware couldn't quite keep up ... and i just didn't have the time .. i fell away ... although i finally got broadband and was still on the net constantly ... my focus shifted... i became pretty involved with SoF2 ... but looked back fondly on my Descent memories... just never getting back to it (especially since by then i thought the whole community was gone). i met other people who played SoF2 and other games i was into who used to be d2 fanatics as well... and still never looked back on it. Now ... so many years later I am getting back into a lot of things from long ago. I am running linux on most of my machines now (dual booting xp of course ... can't cut the windows cord completlely ... im a gamer at heart) and found an old Descent 3 Loki installer ... and thought... what the gabbagabbahey. In my search for D2 level ports that I used to be into, hoping to get some friends over to lan and scare them silly with the 360 degree death... i found that the descent community is apparently STILL ALIVE!!! Imagine my surprise to see that this board is still well used! Now all i can say is WOW!! Of course i am actively searching through my old papers and emails and things to find my Kali registration... (they said it's LIFETIME right?) and reinstall that through cedega and check out the old descent channel (i read here that apparently some of the old skool gamers still hang out there...) one can only hope....
why am i posting this? i dunno ... im just sorta all reminiscant of those many hours i spent in the mines ... piloting my Pyro and trying to keep my pilot's rank climbing ever higher and higher (how many did i end up going through ???) but since i have spoken to many people over the years recalling those days without anyone really understanding the draw... i thought here of all places someone might identify and understand...
if nothing else.. thanks for bringing back those memories for me (says a 25 year old guy ... as if on his death bed remembering the big band era and shipping off to WWII)
peace

lol .............. ellipses are my friends when im tired!!! thanks all, its good to be here now. i don't know if i can be considered old skool, i wonder if there is a space between old skool and n00b, something like: "weathered". old skool seems like those people i remember were around when i started, the ones that beat the snot out of me and taught me everything i knew / know. all i can say is that started with the descent ONLINE people back in early 1996, but have been playing since Feb. of 1995 (the first descent came out 5 days after my birthday, i bought it for myself as a birthday present). so i think that if nothing else, I am a weathered, aged, descent player. (even if i never got all that good at it )
to everyone here, thanks for the offers of food: cookies , cake , fruit and veggies. mmmm. much appreciated.
you'll see me around now.
(happy coming birthday []V[]essenjah)

In certain circumstances it is warranted, but they are few, and far between.
And hey, I'm Money. I classify as Noob. Hopefully we can play sometime.
Hey there fyrephlie. Good to see you again. I remember every time I typed your name I had to check that I had your right spelling. I just hang on around and post as I haven't played D3 in ages. But you know what, I still have it on my hard drive as I just can't get myself to remove it. How sad is that?

Firefly,
in case you're still interested in D2: I am currently porting D2X-W32 (OpenGL port of D2) to Linux.

Actually, I hopped in and started playing a single-player mission the other day, started on level 4.. you know, its been years since I played that level, and I forgot about the trains... and I about crapped my pants when they abruptly reminded me of their existance....

i would like to point out something very obvious: this is a forum. if i were to be truly concerned about solid writing fundementals, perhaps you might be happy. however, because this will not be on your desk before class starts, i'm not going to worry too much more about it. so what if im lazy, its a forum.Mobius wrote:Yes. STFU Mobius!
Nobody takes him seriously any more. It's only a matter of time until he gets himself banned, because he gets warned pretty regularly to stop bugging people about their spelling, grammar, etc.

Holy shut the hell up, Mobius! Your horrible grammar is even more grating than his. Why? It's annoying because you run around like a lunatic (jackass?) professing to know how to speak the English language better than the average Joe. News flash, Mobius: YOU CAN'T. SO, FOR THE SAKE OF THE IPU, SHUT UP!!!!!!!!!!!Mobius wrote: Yes. Dot dot dot says "I am very lazy" and "I can't be bothered actually constructing sentences in full."

FYI, the following is a corrected version of your post. Read it and learn.
Please also note that "can't be bothered to" and "few and far between" are both extremely overused cliches. Their use lowers the grade of an English paper at any respectable university.Mobius (if he knew how to speak English) wrote: Yes. "Dot dot dot" says, "I am very lazy," and "I can't be bothered to actually construct full sentences."
Certain circumstances warrant the use of ellipses. However, these circumstances are few and far between.
I left in the cliches because... well... to make anything that comes out of your mouth sound like well-formed English, it would have to be completely rewritten. Thems the breaks, Mobius.
