Police rock.

Post by MehYam »

10pm Saturday, I get back from a snowboarding trip to discover that my Acura RSX was missing from the parking lot where the bus drops us off. In 15 minutes the sheriff arrives, and takes down the stolen car report. Less than five hours later I get a call at home saying that the car was pulled over and recovered, with the perp driving it.

Give any officers you know a big handshake for me.

P.S. one of the officers told me that "Lo-Jack" is a big waste of money, FYI, and that alarm systems are better.

No visible exterior damage, but it's at the dealer's being looked over. The parking lot had a lot of sideshow-style skid marks in it, some of which went over concrete parking barriers. Hate to think of my baby being abused like that (hopefully it wasn't from my car at all), so I'm having the alignment and suspension looked at.

Nice to hear.

When my RX-7 was stolen, it showed up 7 days later: raced (all tread gone from new tyres), crashed (Front left suspension and wheel destroyed) and striped of parts - rear seat, all interior trim, wing mirrors, stereo, carpets, and the motor, when it finally started, filled the warehouse with evil black smoke - a sure sign of blown rotor seals.

Insurance ripped me off $7000. Needless to say, I have a different insurer now, with "Agreed Value" policy.

MehYam's car

Glad you got your car back in one piece.

Lo-Jack does work, as long as the PD in your area has receivers. Sometimes it even helps to find cars that aren't equipped, like when a stolen auto ring parks the LoJack car next to the rest of their non-LoJack bretheren in the warehouse.

The only quickly effective method I've seen to disable it has been to torch the car. Otherwise the perp will park it someplace for a day and then come back to it. If it's there, they take it figuring it doesn't have LoJack. If it's gone, then they think it did have LoJack and they're better off for leaving it.

OnStar is also proving to be a help as they can track the car to within roughly 20 feet of it's location through GPS.

A hidden kill switch is the easiest way to disable your car so the thief can't take it. However, a thief who really wants your car will take it even if it means dragging it behind a truck.

Yeah, I'm a huge fan of The Police. I listen to their 4-CD complete box set all the time. As a drummer I aspire to play like Stewart Copeland. Too bad Sting can't write good songs anymore...

Wait, why is everyone talking about cars?

KevSHEEP! Long time no speak, hope you're digging socal.

Yeah, the old Mazda finally had enough of me, so I sold it and picked up a new (2002) RSX a couple years ago - great car. The dealer says there's no signs of stress or trauma to the car, except to its owner. ;) I lucked out.

Thanks, dudes, for all the well wishes.

Hey ya Mr HeadFlapper :)

SoCal is great, we really like it.

I am working way too much. On top of my design projects I am now Engineering Manager for the Automation group (I said I would do it for up to a year - management sucks) I am also acting Director of Engineering for the whole mess.

Since I don't have enough to do - we have started landscaping the backyard. (Raised bed, patio, patio cover, built in BBQ, a pond.... well so far I am woring on the raised bed.

Looks like little Chuck has lived out his life. He has cancer and we will have to put him down soon, likely this week.

I guess thats the whole update....
