Back to the BB
Back to the BB
I've noticed a lot of Descent old-timers returning lately, and I thought, what the heck, I might as well. I don't think any of you recognize me, since I never posted or played under this name. But I'll give you a bit of background.
Descent was, pretty much, the first game I ever got into. It came as a demo with my family's first computer. I think I was about seven at the time. I quickly mastered the controls and ate up the subsequent two games, along with the various add-on missions, particularly with D2. Ah, the good 'ol days. I was always more of a single player person. I've never been too great at multiplayer, but did do some D3 on PXO up until a few years ago.
Anyway, I've been following the DBB almost since its inception. I think that I found out about it in summer of '99, maybe a little earlier than that. I posted under a number of aliases, mostly debating inane things like whether Star Wars or Star Trek was better. I've never stopped reading the DBB (mostly because I enjoy the E&C Commentary), but I miss a lot of people who have departed... I remember Yaffy, for crying out loud. And those momentous times for our humble community: The DBB Hacking. The Fragile (Heh... I). Rican (enough said, right?) I never really expected to still care about Descent eleven years later. Could I be the DBB's greatest lurker? Perhaps. It's good to get back into the community, though.
Oh, and I think it's interesting that the community has continued to grow. There are plenty of interesting people who've shown up in the past few years- Bettina, Kilarin, etc. Things are as interesting as ever, I guess. Maybe someday I'll either get Descent running on the windows PC (If I ever get another 3D Pro!), or find games for my main computer, the Mac.

Oh, I remembered my old name. Back in the day, I was Kapn_Krunch on the DBB. I have no idea why I used that name. I hated it. But at least I had a good slogan: *NEVER UNDERESTIMATE PLASMA POWER!*
I played under a lot of different names online, and don't really remember them. But I don't believe I played against any of you guys very often, so it's a moot point.

I think Yaffy ceased to be when he attained his goal: DBB Master (Spammer). Either that or he accidentally shot himself with one of his damn spud-guns.Firewheel wrote:I remember Yaffy, for crying out loud.
TopWop is still here, so I guess that's one climactic event we got over pretty well.Firewheel wrote:The DBB Hacking.
That guy was weird, man. His departure was something else -- along with his seventeen name changes.Firewheel wrote:The Fragile (Heh... I).
I still have a question about him... did he get banned? Or did he leave on his own accord?Firewheel wrote:Rican (enough said, right?)

It wasn't really announced.Capm wrote:I remember you - oddly I don't remember Rican getting banned?
What happened was Rican was flaming a few people incessantly in E&C. He got threatened with a short-term ban, but he wouldn't let up, so he got banned short-term. He didn't come back, and we all thought it was a better place after that.

I remember many thought these two were one in the same, giving The Fragile's comp skillz waayyyyy too much credit, he was honored all the same from what I recall. Some users are better off gone.Firewheel wrote:

Talking about yourself in third person is lame.
