new laptop> tablet> what company?

Post by Isaac »

So i've decided i'm doing enough free hand art to need a stylus. Only problem: i hate styluses. They're stupid. But what dose look good is drawing on a screen instead. (plus there are some video games that could work better like this). So for the sake of art, what do you think would be better for digital painter?

If you're not sure what a tablet is, it's a laptop that has a screen that can swivel around and close so that it's screen points up. Here is what a lap top
ImageImageImageA tablet opens like a regular laptop, then swivels, and can be drawn or written. (note: model and make doesn't change between positions)
pc vs laptop video. To see it in action.

IBM/lenovo tablets have all gotten good reviews as far as using the touch screen. Unlike the HP models there's no lag and there for would be a good canidate for free hand art. And they're all over youtube video reviews.

The new toshiba tablets also have been getting great scores on cnet. And they looked good on youtube video reviews.

The only tablets that have been been said to have lagged when using the screen are the HP versions. And it did just as bad in the video reviews.

I haven't done any research on acer yet but i did come across this article about a 3d artist who uses a tablet. Maybe i'll be doing everything on a tablet some day.

edit:
This is way too small for doing good photoshop work,
but check out it's keyboard. cool no?

Wacom tablet. The tablets have infinitely more precision than any reasonably-priced tablet PC does.

If you have lots of money to blow, the Wacom Cintiq is quite sexy.

here's the only wacom tablet i'd get. Honestly a regular wacom tablet is the cheapest way to go (only reason i see getting it) but as for more percise? There hasnt been anything online i've seen that says this. Now you might be thinking of the old tablet laptop where there is lag between the pen and the pointer. But the new ones have fixed that and have added features such as disabling the touch screen with your fingers when the pen is pulled out. So if you know of someone one of the new laptops i've mentioned and know for a fact that it's laggy or not exact, then please source. This is exactly what im looking for. okagesamade!!!!

Think about the durability of the unit you choose. I think I made a bad choice because my case is flimsy. It has cracked twice at the hinges on the back panel for the Lcd screen and at the base of the keyboard. For all IBMs expense and underpower they do have models with metal cases. By the way, I've been very good to my laptop. I've never dropped it despite PC Clubs claims. Don't trust extended warranties either, the language in them is well constructed to make you responsible for the most common problems. Mishandling is a favorite defense of theirs and difficult to disprove too.

In a toss-up between tablets

WACOM vs Genius

they are basically the same - but you pay more with the WACOM

only go with ones that have 1024 levels not 512 for sensitivity

I seem to have a better workout dodging your stupidity than attempting to grasp the weight of your intelligence.
