My faves from this thread:
Krom wrote:You hear a faint shield hit wall thunk sound when you stub your toe.
BUBBALOU wrote:* You become confused if a door does not open after you touch it.
...
* You wander around your house, after finishing a bag of cheesy poofs, looking for the respawned bag.
...
* You buy parts to fix your car and then run over them, expecting the upgrades to attach themselves.
...
* You bob up and down rhythmically, nonstop, no matter what else you may be doing.

You show up at a party and you are known by more than 2 people who you have either never met or haven't seen in 5+ years and know you as your Descent Nickname...

(This was a horrible experience that actually happened to me this weekend...)

You show up at a party and most or all of the people there know you by your Descent handle. (You attend Descent LAN parties.)

When I was co-hosting Descent 3 lan parties back in 99-02 everyone who attended just used our Descent handles instead of real names. We eventually knew each others names but even today, I still call everyone by the player names.

It's still awesome.

This year was the first year I got the chance to get to a LAN. People there just knew me as \"Foil\"; I loved it. :)

Your a true descenter when...
  • you run over round blue objects to help survive car accidents.
  • you drive your car on the subway tracks, trying to dodge the train by hiding in small nooks.
  • you hear about iranian nuclear weapons on the news, and reply "Who cares, we have earthshakers!"
  • you plow head first into water, and somehow bounce off.
  • vyou meet a miner, and hand them a weapon "You'll need this when they start to become infected."
  • you dare someone to kick you square in the nuts, thinking your blue energy shield will stop any damage.
  • you get shot, and try to heal the damage by touching a powerline, holding a device you call an "Energy to Shield Converter".

Did you try checking the forums here or over at .com? It was stickied in both places for months, the threads are still there.

When you start to make guass and plasma sounds at the slow car infront of you, then instinctivly you reach for a secondary fire button(horn)... alas, it does nothing... but that doesnt stop you from imagining the vehical being ripped to shreds by guass rounds, even though in your mind the car and occupant are completly destroyed you feel inclined to finish the job with a concussion :x :o

A smile comes across your face and you calm down, knowing that you will be in the mines soon enough.

Every time you see a large blue ball or something you think resembles a large blue ball you either take off at top speed to retrieve it or hide in preparation to ruthlessly dispatch anyone who approaches it.

You know you're a true Descenter when you attempt to tricord into a parking space with both sides occupied and end up scratching a double parked car to \"bump it\" out of the way...

Nice one.

If you ever look around rooms in real-life and figure out how you could build them with cubes.

If you ask your English teacher to go out into the Pod (a group of class rooms that share a common area with computers, tables, etc) so you can make a drawing of the ceiling into your gridded notebook so you can replicate it in 3dedit, just because it looks that cool.

Been there.

Almost guilty, but rooms are too trivial for me to spend effort on.

Some of the things I have tried to twist into cubes though... ouch.

DEATH OF AN INNOCENT

Post by Dtile »

DEATH OF AN INNOCENT
********************************
I went to Descent lan, Mom, I remembered what you said.
You told me not to lag, Mom, so I bought a 100mb NIC instead.
I really felt proud inside, Mom, the way you said I would.
I didn't lag and fly, Mom, even though the others said i could.

I know I did the right thing, Mom, I know your always right.
Now DFest is finally ending, Mom, as everyone is flying out of sight.
As I got into my pyro, Mom, I knew I'd had a successful flight.
Because of the way you raised me, so responsible and polite.

I started to fly away, Mom, but as I pulled out into the levels,
the other pyro lag bursted at me, Mom, and hit me like a load.
As I lay there on the pavement, Mom, I hear the DescentersFesters say,
the other guy was lagged, Mom, and now I'm the one who will pay.

I'm lying here dying, Mom. I wish you'd get here soon..
How could this happen to me, Mom? My pyro just burst like a balloon.
There is blood all around me, Mom, and most of it is mine.
I hear my team mate say, Mom, I'll die in a short while.

I just wanted to tell you, Mom, I swear I didn't lag.
It was the others, Mom. The others connection was bad.
He is on the same lavel as I, mom, watching as he flies.
The only difference is, Mom, his connection sucked, it wasnt really mine.

Why do people lag, Mom? It can ruin your whole life.
I'm feeling sharp pains now. Pains just like a knife.
The guy who hit me is flying, Mom, and I don't think it's fair.
I'm lying here dying and all he can do is stare.

Tell my Team mate not to cry, Mom. Tell Daddy to be brave.
And when I go to heaven, Mom, put \"Moma's boy\" on my grave
Someone should have told him, Mom, not to lag and fly.
If only they had told him, Mom, I would still be alive.

My breath is getting shorter, Mom. I'm becoming very scared.
Please don't cry for me, Mom. When I needed you, you were always there.
I have one last question, Mom, before I say good bye.
I didn't lag and fly, so why am I the one to die?
