Some political humor...
Some political humor...
The Pope and Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton are on the same stage in front
of a huge crowd. The senator and His Holiness, however, have seen it all
before. To make it a little more interesting, the Hillary says to the Pope,
\"Did you know that with just one little wave of my hand I can make every
Democrat in the crowd go wild?\"
He doubts it, so she shows him. Sure enough, the wave elicits cheering from
every democrat in the crowd. Gradually, the cheering subsides.
The Pope, not wanting to be out done by such a level of arrogance, considers
what he could do. \"That was impressive, the Pope says, \"But did you know
that with just one little wave of MY hand I can make EVERY person in the
crowd goes crazy with joy? This joy will not be a momentary display like
that of your subjects, but will go deep into their hearts, and they will
forever speak of this day and rejoice.\"
The senator seriously doubts this, and says so. \"One little wave of your
hand and all people will rejoice forever? Show me.\"
So the Pope slapped her.

It would work for any politician... yet it's un-funny when told about Hillary?Foil wrote:Meh, that joke would work for any politician (or celebrity, for that matter).
IMO it's extra funny with Hillary because she's been in the public eye for so long and because so many people have at least one thing they dislike about her, but a lot of people still really like her. She's the perfect target for the joke -- she's disliked just the right amount. I don't think it'd work as well with any other politician, though it would at least be mildly amusing if told about Bush, Ted Kennedy, or even Ahnold.
It could also be mildly funny with certain popular/unpopular athletes -- Kobe, Ray Lewis, ARod, Jeter, guys like that. But I can't think of a case in which it'd be more funny than with Hillary.

Sure, it's funny. But it's political, and during this time of year, political humor usually just gets a 'groan' from me.Lothar wrote:It would work for any politician... yet it's un-funny when told about Hillary?Foil wrote:Meh, that joke would work for any politician (or celebrity, for that matter).
Not that I hate politics, or that I like Hillary as a candidate; I don't. I just get tired of the endless posturing and campaigning and argumentation of politics, especially during an election year.
On that note, I do sometimes find jokes about the insanity of election years funny.
Yesterday on the radio they reported that Hillary said something like 'Massachusetts should do the right thing and pick a winner for a change'. I Googled but can't find any referance... may have been satire.
