You mean like the way Paris Hilton shouldn't have been able to trademark the phrase "That's hot"? Yeah, there are too many greedy basts in this world that would sell their soul for money!roid wrote:they shouldn't be able to do it. You can't legally trademark common phrases

By jove you're right! I read that she had applied for it in 2005, and patent lawyers didn't think she's get it. But just now i read:TIGERassault wrote:You mean like the way Paris Hilton shouldn't have been able to trademark the phrase "That's hot"? "Hilton owns the trademark "That's hot," which was registered on Feb. 13, 2007.".
Trump also tried to trademark "You're Fired!", but i've been unable to confirm whether he got it.
\"pwn\" is a typo of \"own\" - and thus is a reference to domination. I \"dominated\" you in that game. Thus probably linked to terms such as \"your ass is mine\" that contain concepts of ownership relationship structures (even master and slave) and thus psychological power-play.
Common typos are important to internet culture, as they carry the added nuanced meanings of being typed fast. It's almost like an accent, an internet accent. It shows you've been here a while when you type so fast

Pwn is meant to distinguish the 1337's from the noobs (both nooblets and even the nooblars). While the noobs would use the more common term \"own,\" those who are experienced gamers (the 1337's) would use the term used more by the 1337's called \"pwn.\"
Also, pwners sounds better than owners due to owning belonging also to common world activities.
