Disabled wireless connection

Compaq Presario V3000 laptop has the wireless connection disabled and if I right click on the icon in the tray there is no \"Enable\" on the menu.

I can see my network and when I click on it it says \"the network may no longer be in range and does not ask for a pasword.

Where can I go from here?

Try running a repair, it might get whatever glitch is screwing up windows.

is this a internal or external ( PCMCIA Card ) device?

Maybe there is a physical switch or button on the laptop for toggling the power to the wireless device.

Someone mentioned about trying to reinstall the drivers I assume for the NIC card. In the Device Mgr it showes a Broadcom 802.11b/g WLAN.

I've gone to the Broadcom site but don't know what I'm looking for or if drivers is something I should be looking at.

To reinstall the drivers, just go into device manager and remove the wireless networking adapter and reboot, it should automatically detect and reinstall it.

Under network adapters there is 1394 net adapter, Broadcom and Nivdia nforce networking controller.

I'd deleted the broadcom only and it reinstalled when I restarted but still the same problem.

Is there a FN + # feature for the wireless?

Also in services.msc, check to ensure wireless zero config is enabled. (XP)

I ck'd the manual and there is no \"Fn\" key pertaining to wireless.

Also Services has \"Zero\" ck'd.

It's a Phoenix BIOS and I don't see anything about wireless.

there are two ways of configuring wlan functions in windows, wireless zero config is a standard ui build into windows, or the software provided with the wlan chipset.
often if you install the software wireless zero config in windows is disabled and the custom config software hovering in the tray takes over.
on the other hand, if the chipsoftware running in the task cant configure the wlan, most likely either the drivers are not installed properly or windows wireless zero config is enabled wich makes the custom config-software useless.

I am assuming the broadcom is the wireless? Is the connection enabled in Network and internet connections in control panel? Have you uninstalled the device from device manager to let it reset.

Well, I found the problem.

I'm using a D-Link 624 wireless router and I disabled the password, restarted the router and laptop and got on.

So I enabled the router password restarted the laptop and this time although the \"x\" was on the wireless icon. When I click on my network it asked me for a password which I never got before.
