Something far more important than any WindowsME^2 service pack:
WinXP SP3 due 4/29
<brag>April 21, 2008: Original Equipment Manufacturers, Volume License, Connect, and MSDN and TechNet subscribers</brag>
\"Windows Internet Explorer 7 is not included as part of SP3 and still must be downloaded and installed separately.\"
Fortunately!

I thought for sure IE7 would be bundled. Well that just means that if it is installed repair installs after IE7 still have to go through the whole recovery console song and dance to get IE working again.
I wonder if they will fix some of the more obscure bugs, like sometimes \"always on top\" items getting stuck under something else. Or the taskbar covering up tool/info bubbles. At any rate, I'll probably wait a week or two before installing it to make sure any late bugs are fixed.

Re:
It sucks because you cant use the re-install portion of Windows setup per Krom's post, hence making my job of fixing peoples computers more difficult. Otherwise yes, IE is a piece of trash.Testiculese wrote:Sucks? Why would anyone want that piece of trash on their computer? No thanks! If I really wanted to kill myself, I'd jump off a building.

Well, you know what to do!
I've long refused to work on people's machines if they insist on IE. Not worth my time.

Whoops.
Microsoft Delays XP SP3 Once Again
By Kevin McLaughlin, ChannelWeb

Microsoft has decided to hold off on releasing Windows XP service pack 3 through Windows Update and Microsoft Download Center due to a glitch that affects one of its Dynamics products.
The problem stems from a compatibility issue between Microsoft Dynamics Retail Management System (RMS) and both XP SP3 and Vista SP1, a Microsoft spokesperson said in an email to ChannelWeb.
Microsoft, which last week targeted Tuesday, April 29 for public distribution of XP SP3, is preparing to block PCs running Dynamics RMS from downloading XP SP3 and Vista SP1 through Windows Update and the Download Center, the spokesperson said.
Once that block is in place, Microsoft will release Windows XP SP3 to the public through Windows Update and Download Center. \"Until we have published a fix for this issue, we advise Microsoft Dynamics RMS customers to not install either service pack,\" said the spokesperson.
Microsoft is working on a fix for the issue and will release it \"as soon as that process is complete\", according to the spokesperson.
Dynamics RMS is Microsoft's SMB-focused retail chain management offering. In January, Microsoft rolled out a new Dynamics for retail solution that melds Dynamics RMS with its Dynamics AX applications for purchasing, inventory management, merchandising and supply chain management.
Last Tuesday, Microsoft revealed plans to delay the release of XP SP3 to MSDN and TechNet subscribers until May 2 due to high demand for Vista SP1, but reversed its decision the following day.

I rebooted, disconnected the network cable, turned everything off in the system tray and let her rip. It took a little over 20 minutes for the SP to run (not counting the obligatory reboot at the end) on my 866 MHz Pentium III Win XP Pro box.
I tested most of the icons on my desktop, put the Mozilla software through its paces, and everything seems to work.
Pretty painless, all in all.

Note that Multi-Patcher 5.5 can't do SP3, use this one instead:TechPro wrote:Mmmm.... Thanks for the reminder. I'll need to do the same.

Some AMD users may need to be aware of this first...

(some AMD systems end up in a continuous reboot situation after applying XP SP3)
