D1 > D2 > D2X-XL

Post by Praetorian »

I was reading the thread about The Enemy Within and decided I needed to play the that. I pulled out all the Descent disks and \"The Definitive Collection\" was the newest set of the D1/D2 disks I have.

The D2X-XL instructions said I should have a clean install of D1 and D2 which works out as that was the goal anyway.

The problem is XP crashes hard (thunk) when I use the install.exe on disk 1. I tried the right click and set compatibility to 95 but it crashed again.

How do I install The Definitive Collection?

Thanks!

Try exploring the CD and running the DOS install and not the Win95 install.

I'd like to re-iterate (just in case) that the only requirement for Enemy Within is Descent 2 1.2 (I think, might be 1.1); you don't need D2X-XL for it.

However, you might need D2X-XL to actually get the game to be playable in the first place, so if that is the case... as you were. :D

Apparently, my system does not like \"The Definitive Collection\".

Damn good thing I'm a Descent nut and have earlier CD's of the collection.

Pulled out the Windows 95 (only) 2 disk D2 Vertigo Set and installed them. They worked.

Guess I won't be seeing D1 anytime soon as those disks won't work. I was so looking forward to the Descent Anniversary Edition too.

Now I am following the directions for the D2X-XL setup to see how that goes.

D2X-XL is in and seems okay, I just have to set some stuff up having played D3 for soooo long.

I do need to know how to make the ship not move forward automatically by itself. It did not do it when I installed D2, it started after D2X-XL installation.

It's hard to look around when the ship wants to go.

Are you using a Laptop?

If so. Are you using a mouse or are you using the touchpad to control your ship?

Another thing, have you tried different peripherals? Does the problem persist with a ......

* Newer mouse?
* Different keyboard?
* Joystick/gamepad?
* keyboard only?

If any of these. Try unplugging them to see if that fixes the problem.

Also, don't run the \"setup\" program for the sound. :P

Beats me why the ship moved forward as it has stopped and it is a PC not a laptop.

D2X-XL is in and D2 is again as addictive as it was the first time I played it. You would think it would not be but it is now 2:14 am

Thanks for the help.
