I think new users should be restricted to a single hidden forum section. Once they make 10 posts with out getting banned they rank up to the normal cadet status, and can use the forum like everyone else.

For this \"stranger\" rank:
If the 10 posts are made within 1 hour they get IP banned.
Maybe a longer time limit between posts.
Posts return an error for anything that looks like a website or url in the text.
No images can posted.

***Fyi: I don't think spamming is a big problem on this forum and it gives the moderators banning practice. However, I would greatly enjoy watching spammers work hard to rank up only to be banned moments after graduating.

But I see what you are saying; spam is a problem. I know phpBB3 has some helpful anti-spam features, but you still need a mod to make it happen, so maybe that's not too helpful I guess.

I see what you mean. But don't worry, this forum wouldn't make a sudden policy adjustment like that. I'm pretty sure the forum will be the same into the year 2020, which would mean we had no problems; that's good.

that would only discourage people
Some people register on forums to respond to a question or say something to someone else before their glory/manhood/self esteem is taken away by other user
but in a way, it would be nice because of all the one post wonders out there
