You could get the Wiimote's motion handling roll, pitch, and yaw, with the Nunchuck stick for sliding, and the buttons on the Nunchuck for forward and reverse motion. The A button handles primaries and the B button secondaries, or vice versa. The 1 and 2 buttons could cover ancillary features like flares or proximity mines. I feel like it'd work out fairly well.

Is that hypotetical, or do you have Descent running on your PS3?Xamindar wrote:How will the controls work? Wii controller doesn't exactly win the "controller with a lot of buttons" award. I even find it hard to make all Descent controls work on a Playstation3 controller as it is.
Re:
Haha, I wish. No, you can plug a dualshock3 controller into a PC and it works (Linux works out of box, Windows with an easily downloaded driver). I have tried it a few times in Descent 2 and 3 but so far haven't been able to get used to it.Thenior wrote: Is that hypotetical, or do you have Descent running on your PS3?
Top Gun, that actually sounds like a good way to do it. Sounds fun.
Why doesn't it work?

They could also set it up exactly like a joystick. \"Hold the WiiMote straight up in your dominant hand. Tilt it back and forth for pitch. Tilt it left and right for turning. Twist it left and right for rolling. Nunnychuckkey is the throttle.\" Sliding controls could be the D pad on the Wiimote or the C-Stick on the nunchuck.

Watching that, make me wonder, if you could play Multiplayer with any confidence.Aus-RED-5 wrote:It's possible.Xamindar wrote:How will the controls work? Wii controller doesn't exactly win the "controller with a lot of buttons" award.
It's never good to wake up in the shrubs naked, you either got way too drunk, or your azz is a werewolf.
It doesn't look like that config is using the infrared light bar, like an actual Wii setup would, so it's probably just limited to the accelerometers in the Wiimote, instead of the full position triangulation. Now what would really be interesting is if this port is designed for the MotionPlus add-on, since you could probably get an even finer level of control out of that.

hhmmm...
My wife starting using a computer this year, though they have always been in our house - she wanted no part of it. Now she spends a couple hours a day.
She uses the Wii for exercise stuff...
If I get her to play Descent on Wii... just maybe
I could get her to play on the computer.
This could get interesting

Sounds like they'll be doing this with the first Descent... maybe Descent 2. I'm afraid that doesn't have any effect on Descent 3's PXO. Cool, I guess, but still... what's up with that? Surely the WII is capable of handling D3...

Interplay doesn't fully own D3? They share rights with Outrage and they aren't on good terms - from memory?Sergeant Thorne wrote:Sounds like they'll be doing this with the first Descent... maybe Descent 2. Something like that.
There are others here that know more about that.

Maybe that helps.http://www.descent4.org/ wrote:
Regarding Descent sequels, it's very unlikely that Volition would ever be involved in one. Interplay owns the sequel rights to Descent. It's possible Outrage will develop another Descent sequel, but I don't know what their plans are. I also don't know what Interplay's plans are for the franchise.

Descent ? Wii ?!
I thought a lot about why would interplay re-release D1 for Wii.
I mean who would buy it?
only guys that loved the original game,
No new player would buy a 15 years old game.
Probably and hopefully they are just testing the water to see if there is a market for a descent game.
This is the main reason why I would buy it.
Even though I don't really see myself playing descent with a Wii-mote.

Why not?goznik wrote:No new player would buy a 15 years old game.
Why doesn't it work?
Gonz, why would they release it on Wii?
couple of reasons I can think of:
They need the cash and Descent was a major seller for them back in the day.
The Wii? probably it's best demographic. That and the controlle would be well suited for it.
It's a bit of a gamble, but they won't lose hardly anything. I'm sure they will sell well; perhaps not as well as say Mario carts or Zelda, but I think they will at least clear the costs of packaging and marketing.

So really, the only cost is to the people who are porting it.
