THIS is interesting....

It should be good.

For those who don't know; GiaS is a futuristic cybercop super secret covert-ops show set in Tokyo. So yea, it's anime. great stories though; some of the best I've encountered.

Ghost in a Shell is about as good as it gets, as far as an anime goes. In fact it's one of the most realistic sci-fi series I've ever seen; I believe that's what the future will look like. So, I'm rooting for this, but why does everything have to be in 3d? Ugh... fads...

No, the fictional Japanese city Masamune Shirow set most of, if not all of his anime in, such as Tank Police.

I always thought it was \"Ghost in THE Shell\". At least that's what my dvd has printed on it.

Not sure if anyone can do better than the original anyway.

Did you know the original author that drew the Ghost in the Shell manga started his carrier by drawing pornographic manga?

That's another one of the series I should watch some day... heard a lot of praise for Cowboy Bebop as well, as bizarre as the name sounds to me. If I recall, both are noted for their music...

Many prominent manga authors of today started out their careers in the "doujin" field drawing naughty bits. It's apparently the way to go.

Oh God yes, Cowboy Bebop's music is amazing, and that of the Ghost in the Shell: Stand-Alone Complex television series is no slouch either. Both were composed by Yoko Kanno, who's widely considered the best composer in the anime business today. As for Bebop itself, I'd definitely rank it as the greatest anime series ever made myself, and it's something that someone with absolutely no interest or experience in anime could greatly enjoy.

You can only say this because you haven't watched Legend of the Galactic Heroes. Actually I could probably name a half dozen others that are less "anime" than Cowboy Bebop but LoGH edges out most contenders.

I haven't watched that series, but I do plan on getting around to it at some point, since I've heard nothing but high praise for it from anyone who's mentioned it. What I do know is that, out of all the series I have scene, none has exemplified the full package of direction, character exposition, animation, soundtrack, setting, and just the overall "feel" quite like Bebop does. Shinichiro Watanabe really is a creative genius.

Yeah that one had a really good story. Another one that is good and probably my favorite series of all is Eureka Seven. Really well done and good story and character development.

Trigun was actually pretty mediocre as far as anime adaptations go imo. I used to rate it higher but I've been spoiled by a few epics or just more polished or exciting series in similar genres.

Eureka Seven was very good, but it also involved a lot of giant super robots which is about as \"anime\" as it gets. The music was great though.

On the subject of music, Yoko Kanno that did the Stand Alone Complex / Cowboy Bebop OSTs is pretty popular. The original score for the Ghost in the Shell movie was done by Kenji Kawai who is also one of the big names in anime scores in Japan. A couple of my other favorites are Ko Otani and Yuki Kajura.

agreed. That's why I said \"general run of the mill\" (or did I say that?.. oops! left out a few words.. anyways..)It's good, but not near the caliber of the higher quality. and really, Anime as a genre has improved greatly these last 10 years in quality.

Now that I have to disagree with, well I suppose you could say you are half right. The good series are really good, but everything else has issues, and a lot of it is pretty horrible.

People say "back in the day all anime was awesome, now there is so much crap" but in reality back in the day the ratio of crap to awesome was about the same, the difference was only the awesome made it all the way over here.

I remember watching a few episodes of this show on [as] and thinking that it was interesting, but then they switched the times around again, and I never kept track of it. The only anime that I ever really followed was Death Note, probably because its not so anime for an anime and because the English dubbing was excellent.
