Best zombie movie.

Post by Isaac »

Dawn of the Dead 2004, by far. It takes the idea seriously enough to make me start problem solving with the characters. It also doesn't try to explain the cause of the \"outbreak\", which I think leaves out a lot of the corn. And a close second would be night of the living dead 1968.

And... Wild zero might have been the corniest zombie movie of all time:

For goofball zombie fun:
Zombieland!

For more serious zombie action/drama:
I rather enjoyed 28 Days Later.

I usually think movies about zombies suck, but I enjoyed Grindhouse: Planet Terror.

Zombies, to me, are about the most dull thing a horror movie could possibly be about.

28 days later might not actually be a zombie movie. I don't think their monsters are actually dead, but it's been a while since I've seen it.

You're not imagining yourself in the film. That's really important when watching these serious drama/horror films with monsters. The viewer is expected to imagine themselves as the victims or the monster. The same goes for action films. And no, not all films require this kind of attention from its audience.

If I'm in the film, I'm immediately around a thousand times more competent than the characters, which removes all suspense. Plus, it's not like zombies are really that effective to begin with.

I've never enjoyed horror flicks; there's little point to intentionally being scared/startled/grossed-out.

However, a zombie apocalypse film can work in a thoughtful or funny film. After all, there's plenty to work with:
- Interesting dramatic scenes (e.g. What do you do with a zombi-fied loved one? What do you do if you've just been infected?).
- Intriguing scenarios and circumstances (e.g. quarantine zones, lone survivors)
- Even some social commentary (What actions do the powers-that-be take?)

That's why I enjoyed the movies I mentioned above. They're not horror; they use a zombie backdrop for a more interesting/funny film about the non-zombie characters.

People enjoy the sensation of being scared without actually being in danger…(but not you, I guess  )

It’s the truth…yup…yup…yup.

……………………………..

I’m not big on Hollywood, but I am currently watching an Anime series called High School of the Dead.

That's why I never like horror movies, besides all the disturbing stuff, people who make them never get creative enough; almost all action movies are idea-less, and, more important, almost all idea movies are action-less.

Well if we're talking about general horror monster flicks, I just saw Paranormal Activity 2....

Boring... boring ... long... 80% of the time watching furniture... I yelled, \"bump into something you drunk ghost!\"... the dog was the best character.

The ending of Paranormal Activity 1 negated the rest of that moovy, so I would never bother watching a sequel. =P

you could watch either part 1 or part2 and say you've seen both..., but I've only seen part of part 1; I might not be a fair judge. I think part 3 should be the perspective of the ghosts, messing with people.

I enjoyed the first two Resident Evil movies and the third one was O.K.

Zombieland was fun too.

yeah the Zombie theme needs a total reconstruction. We need something OTHER than humans being the main characters, how about Zombie main characters with goals of their own? I guess this is kinda what we've been doing with vampires ever since the original Buffy film and Interview with the Vampire.
(But hey i guess comics and books had probably been doing the whole monster-hero thing for a while before that)

Honestly I think atm most people are gettin'-their-Zombie-on via computer games like the Left 4 Dead franchise. Do you play em?

What other goal would a zombie have? Their only motive is to consume the living.

I did consider Left 4 Dead. But the game really didn't appeal to me all that much. Hell I'm still playing UT2004 because I haven't found any thing else yet.

Exactly, it's a shallow character that few have really given much thought.
It could use an overhaul.
