Ignore Function

Is it possible to have the board also ignore the people quoted on your ignore list?

Did I say that right…ugh, not feeling so well.

It seems like the people on my ignore list have become the most quoted people on the board…I know…that’s probably not true.

This would be pretty much impossible to implement, the board doesn't know who or where a quote came from because you can make a quote come from anywhere:

How about this: Is it possible to ignore an entire sub-forum? I would love to never see anything posted in Ethics and Commentary. Ever. Filters anyone?

I could have added a small java script that would allow it but there was a considerable uproar and concern that the stability of the DBB was at great risk, that I needed to not do anything. I complied.

BUT, if you a specific theme that you use that many people don't I would be happy to add that to that theme since it isn't a real mod to the operational side only in the display of the website

That feature comes preinstalled. You turn it on by not clicking on that subforum. You can deactivate it by clicking on that subforum.

It seems like it could be done pretty easily. As far as editing the html string goes, even I could pull that off in Python. Not that I'm suggesting any compatibility... . So is the hard part just extending the "enemies list" function, or what ever it might be called?

This is sort of why I don't really like the concept of an ignore function when it comes to posting. For PMs, yeah, it's great, but when you're talking about actual posts that are part of a back-and-forth conversation...it doesn't really work so well.

I personally don't want to ignore anyone, just being able to bite my tongue or my fingers on the internet has become something handy in life as well. Control yoursef and no one else can control you

To be able to respectively disagree is a talent that many don't or can't understand.

Adding someone to an ignore list is like someone saying I give up ... that person has full control over me and my mouth they own me so I had better put them on an ignore list. That doesn't solve anything, learn to agree to disagree even the most asinine person will shut up after they have totally embarrassed themselves unless of coarse they are dragging some poor fool down with them.

As an admin I don't have the luxury to ignore anyone anyway.

Yeah, and RC missed his ride home and I missed dinner because things didn't go exactly as planned.

Unfortunately nothing ever goes as smoothly as it did in the test runs. If it had worked then it would have only taken a couple minutes to complete and you probably wouldn't have noticed it had been offline.

Once I get another recent copy of the database backup I'm going to retest things and then try again, but this time we will probably take a more conservative approach to avoid downtime.

I'll get that blasted search function working somehow, it can be done, I know it because I've done it like 10 times on my test servers already.

The software probably can't ignore threads by design and while it would be possible to implement it in a mod, doing so would probably be too expensive on time and effort (and I'd be too paranoid about breaking something to do it anyway). However it might be worth trying your luck and asking the phpbb developers to implement it. ---> http://www.phpbb.com

well i don't mod E&C, i'm seeing if i can paint a picture of an E&C worth reading. One where 2 users arn't trying their hardest to monopolise the debate via thread spam - they are posting 2/3rds of ALL the threads.
