Alright well, I've decided 25 will be the magic number. If I can get 25 names that will commit to joining and actively playing, I'll look into beginning development on this ladder. There are already some detractors out there saying it won't happen.
1. Spud
2. Behemoth
3. Deliverance
4. Zero
5. Koolbear
6. Flip
7. Foil
8. Ryujin
9. Wavetrades (d2)
10. Kolo
11. JazzyJet
12. IsAB
Got a long way to go.

Re: Signups!
your never gonna get 25, atleast put it to 20. btw the most i ever got for a tournament was 16 players so thats saying a lot towards your magic number

If you include D1 + D2 + D3 pilots, you can get 25.

Re: Signups!
Well, I have been trying to put the word out about this ladder deal. However, the usual response that i'm getting is this: "Why would I join a ladder that I have no chance of moving up on." or "I'd rather just have the elite pilots destroy me in anarchy..instead of killing us one by one on some ladder" And i have to say.. they have somewhat of a point. You have to admit that these days there is a large "skill gap" between the elite pilots of today.. and pilots like me, which are rather mediocre. I see very few names on the list above that I have any chance of beating. which begs the question: Why join a ladder that I will sit at the bottom of?? Thatgets old rather fast. Don't get me wrong I DO WANT a ladder. i have fond memories of ladder matches back in the day... but we would need more pilots that I stand a chance against. Deliverance, Bagheera, isAB, Leon, have all owned me and also vice versa. which makes me interested in matching them. Ryujin, Behe, Zero, and Darktalyn... makes for a rather boring ladder. No offense guys I'm still in...just wish I saw some names up there that would make it more interesting.
Re: Signups!
Yeah, it is a good point. If it was meant to be, we'd have a good list of people of all skill levels by now. That's what makes a good ladder is good amount of people of all skill levels. To me 25 would at least generate a top 5 that might be somewhat meaningful but we're not even close to it after several days. It was a great nostalgic idea but I don't think it's quite ready for primetime at this point. As much as I'd love to have a custom ladder for the community, it'd be tragic to see all that work go unused. Tell you what though, if a new Descent comes out and I have free time and the skills to do it, I'll do it up.

Re: Signups!
here's an idea: if an elite beats a relative newcomer, award the winner either one or no points. If a newcomer beats or even ties an elite, give them a lot of points.
that way, people will get points based on how well they do against the opponent.

Re: Signups!
Too complicated, just make the ladder a straight up month long rolling total kills count. That way the #1 slot can be a person with horrible efficiency that just plays more matches than anyone else.

Re: Signups!
I found a few ladder scripts that we could use so maybe noone has to spend any effort to create the ladder. We might want to use on of those Maybe the same ladder data could be displayed in a few different formats.
Didn't Case's Ladder do something like what Ferno mentions?

Re: Signups!
I'd love to get back into it. Don't know if I can put my hands on those old descent cd's but I'll dig around and see if I can find 'em.
Re: Signups!
I don't recall, but the magic tourneys I play in do a similar setup.KoolBear wrote:Didn't Case's Ladder do something like what Ferno mentions?
Yes, i'm playing Magic the gathering. It's so much fun when you can either destroy someone with six thousand creatures you generate or drop a nuclear bomb in the form of 500 direct damage.
Re: Signups!
Why not find a formula for giving each player a skill rating and award win points based on that? Beat a higher skilled player, get more points.
Re: Signups!
Hey i'd sign up for the ladder so count me in...
OldSchool Wildcard (Now in Descent Rangers)
Kolo

Re: Signups!
As I said earlier.. I DO want a ladder. Add Kolo to the list and i'll get on fiend to start posting as well and see if he's interested.. maybe we can get ten names up there and the rest will follow.
Re: Signups!
umm, ryu you should be on that list too
and most of the players that pop in and out every now and then.. this is not a tourney, it's people who are interested in a competitive ladder of descent players, not just for d3 but 1 and 2 also.
i'll try to get some people to see this so they can post because i'm sure many more would be interested they just haven't seen it yet.

I'll sign up for the tourney, but I probably don't belong on the list. I doubt I'll end up being a "regular attender"

Re: Signups!
I will have to respectfully to bow out of this project for several reasons. The biggest of which are other priorities that have cropped up. Also, unfortunately, I dont feel that there is quite enough interest. Good luck and if time frees up again, I'll be sure to get some games in.
