So I was sitting in my PC room last night and I spotted an old busted pc case just gather dust when the idea of building a custom Test Bench Case out of it sort of hit me
Question is what type of layout would you all suggest (best practical layout no need to be fancy or anything just simplistic and practical)? I was thinking of something where the motherboard is top mounted and open for easy access. Have a fixed PSU but positioned to reach all the components and easy to remove (should I need it to test a pc to see if the PSU died), one permanently mounted HDD for the main Test OS, maybe a fixed optical drive and various easy and open mounting spots for testing other HDD or optical drives. Also the top mounted motherboard should be very easy to remove and replace with another one should I need to test a motherboard itself.
I tend to get lots of friends and/or acquaintances asking me to test or fix their pc's and lately I thought this might be just the kind of thing I would like to have handy in times like this but I'm not really willing to spend cash on something like this. Murphys laws and all as I will get this and then might end up seldomly using it so I would rather get creative and build one myself (keep those hands busy) from all the spares I've got scattered around here and build up some test pc from the stuff I've got (got an old P4 here that might work if I can sort out its kinks). Currently I have two old pc cases to work with to manufacture something.
So let the ideas flow and I'll see what I can come up with that will float my boat, seeing as not all my ideas are always practical
