Me neither. Always thought they should be as easy to connect with as opponents in multiplayer. And if the little bastards are really going to get kicked around by your first vauss bullet, then it should also take them out. That's the second worst thing about fighting robots. The first is lack of hit feedback (damage indicators). In multiplayer the shields take care of that. The third is weak AI.
Wow. I just experienced a flash-back that resulted in the urge to play Descent! WA2 in particular. That hasn't happened in a long time. Gotta get my main machine back up and running... and on a desk...

You guys talking about big levels reminded me of WA2 also, Had some great CTF games in there, we need to get some more people playing!

Those big levels have no place in a game like Descent.
