callmeslick wrote:hell, Spidey, you live in Philly. You know that West Philly precinct, or likely do. First, how much intimidation is going to come from a couple of crazies yelling in the street in that neighborhood, and second, how many voters would have changed their planned vote? You know as well as I that NOT ONE SINGLE PERSON came forward, not one. Don't try to be cute and suggest that they were too scared by a group that never was able to show more than 8 members total.
I could tell you a few stories about voter intimidation from when I was a child living in North Philly, that would make your head spin around and explode…just like your logo.

And none of that stuff ever made the news or was reported by the victims.

………………

In that area, where white people keep their mouths shut and try to stay invisible, I can imagine a scenario where someone pulls up in their car to vote at that polling place…sees a small group of rowdy young men…gets back in their car and drives away.

On the other hand an observer that does not live there, is more than likely to report such a thing…remember voting districts and polling places are very local and personal places.

Of course the irony here is that situation would probably deter many more black voters than white.

the last sentence sums up at least a part of why this wasn't prosecuted, but the fact that it was a group of TWO PEOPLE was another.

This was about voter intimidation. Color of the skin has no bearing. No matter if it was one person doing the intimidation or a hundred has no bearing either.

but no one was able to prove that one person was intimidated, Woody. And, seriously, I do agree, if so much as a single person was truly intimidated from voting, go for the case. But, they couldn't prove that, and had ZERO complaints from within the precinct. Don't anyone try and tell me that someone, if intimidated, wouldn't have at least CALLED the Justice dept or the Committee that oversees elections in Philly, or the Board of Elections??

But, but, but, ummm...there was a white guy that got arrested for a hate crime and a black guy didn't. I don't know why I'm being blind to the rest of the justice system, but it makes me feel better about being the racist douche that I am....

Problem is…what if…just what if, the black and Hispanic kids are misbehaving more than white kids, would it really be a good idea to change policy, would that in fact be a racist policy.

Please answer the question as asked, then you can proceed to qualify.

the data suggests that the punishment for the EXACT same behavior is different in between different ethnic groups. Moreover, the overall interest is doing something other than railroading 'misbehaving' children into the criminal justice system, no matter WHAT color they are.

I’d love to see that data.

But, I have to agree with the rest of that tho…

And you didn’t answer my question.

yes, I did......even if the rate of misbehavior is greater, the processes leading to early entry into the criminal system HAS to be changed. I might not have used those exact words, but isn't that the inference of my last sentence in the post you responded to?

Will had so many exclamation points in his rant above I imagined him hyperventilating the entire time he wrote it.

Can we just put all the blacks in jail and get it over with already?

I guess your imagination had to wander to something amusing after it failed you in an attempt, once again, to answer the question.

Why answer the same dumbshit question for the fifth time? Laws shouldn't be applied unevenly but this one happens to be. The only problem for your ilk is that it's uneven NOT in your favor, so you whip up this fake outrage. You're a white man like the rest of us, now shut up and move on with the rest of your life.

no, go re-read it. He asked if the status quo should be changed if blacks and hispanics misbehaved at a greater rate. He said he'd like to see the study, but that wasn't his question.

No Cob, nobody has answered the question.
And we all know why. It's because there isn't an answer that support an inequal application of the law.

Slick has tried to dance around it by saying my premise on equality is correct but that the current Justice Department doesn't exclude certain people from the protection of the law. Eric Holder has testified to the contrary. Since he is the Attorney General and slick is just slick I'm going with the AG.

An equal application of the law doesn't do ANYTHING to weaken the effectiveness of the law or diminish justice in any way.
The motive for selectively applying it has NOTHING to do with justice or reducing disparate outcomes in trials and prosecutions.

I have good cause to be angry at the AG'spolicy. What is your justification for supporting it?
Oh....that's right....you won't be able to answer that truthfully either because it stems from the same motive that the AG has for inequally applying the law.

as for the data, Spidey, I used the word 'apparently' because the more current data is being compounded. What happened was that a study was undertaken in the 90's that was closely following racial disparity in discipline of school age children, but that study was scrapped by the Bush administration in 2006, for reasons I don't know. Since 2009, the Education Dept started a new study, which is due to be released shortly(hence the recent announcement I linked to about the new initiatives). When that study is released, I'll link it. The older study data is out there, but in the past 10 years, a lot has changed due to 'zero-tolerance' policies in school districts around the nation.

You made a statement that was based on the data, but I guess you were really just taking someone’s word for it.

And that is just fine by me, but you really slam others for doing just that.

Oh no, the original study, ended by Bush, is out there for you to find(google-Dept of Education, discipline disparity study), but, like I said, a lot has changed in the ensuing years. The new initiative is based upon the to-be-released data, which as I said, seems to infer a disparity.

Well, I hope this “data” when I do get to see it, contains more than just numbers, and has some observational date, based on eye witness accounts of some kind of widespread disparity in the treatment of minorities by school staff members.

I understand the need to reform the system, but I wouldn’t want the need to address the misbehavior problems, shoved under the table in the pursuit of political correctness, either…

that seems a fair assessment, Spidey. I think the aim in this new initiative is to stop the process of Zero Tolerance sending kids out of the school environment and into the criminal system so easily. That seems a sensible goal, to me.
