This is coming from a person who tried to attach a recent event to something in the past, with the only common theme being a flag? I don't think it was me who failed this time cuda.CUDA wrote:SO WAIT!!!! he made his escape driving an Orange charger while watching gone with the wind on his tablet?

Re: Why Not
Im sorry this whole topic has flown CLEAR over your head, this is ABOUT the flag. Thanks for not paying attention.
FYI the shooter DID NOT wave the confederate flag while he was shooting up the church like you tried to imply. Making stuff up... probably not the best way to make your argument.

When a person wears the flag upon themselves as their everyday outfit, it counts.
Also, it's a pretty epic fail when you try to get out of being called on for pulling a weak analogy. What does the union jack (British flag) have to do with the confederate flag being viewed as a symbol of racism and hatred anyways? Same goes for the firebird from "smokey and the bandit". What does the car have to do with racism and hatred?

Re: Why Not
Please enlighten us. Where is the Confederate flag in those pictures.
Of course you gotta love the fact you try to bag on me about the union jack while posting a picture that you seem to claim the shooter wore everyday, that has the Union jack in it.
EPIC

Maybe you should go back and re-read this thread ferno. Because you've missed a TON of the conversation.

Re: Why Not
Actually you guys, those "flags" that Roof is wearing are Pro-Apartheid, Rhodesia patches. This guy is a racist scumbag of epic proportions. He might as well have had a Confederate Flag plastered next to those 2 patches on his jacket for the views he held.

Re: Why Not
Wait, the guy was not wearing the confederate flag yet all the uproar is over a flag he was not wearing? Is this another instance of organized deception like the "Gentle Giant" and "Hands up don't shoot"? Tell me again how this "spontaneous" upwelling of flag hate got started if not by promotion of confederate flag haters. TC your comment "He might as well have had a Confederate Flag plastered next to those 2 patches on his jacket for the views he held" is what ignorant people are led to believe by mass manipulators.tunnelcat wrote:Actually you guys, those "flags" that Roof is wearing are Pro-Apartheid, Rhodesia patches. Re: Why Not
Sorry woody. The Confederate Flag is no different a symbol than those 2 patches Roof was wearing. The "Rebel Flag" excuse those flag lovers down south give is a load of bull. It's nothing but a symbol of a bunch of traitors defending slavery by waging rebellion against a national government that wanted it abolished. Anything else is a rewrite of history. Roof was holding a Confederate Flag in one of his posted pictures. So what if he wasn't wearing it like a badge at the time he murdered some other human beings because they were black. That's not the point. It means he sympathized with it's historical statement that owning another black human as a slave was a state right worth fighting for, and killing for.

I don't think you're seeing enough, or else not wanting to see at all.

If Roof had carried a confederate flag into the church yelling, "The south shall rise again", you might have a point. Otherwise the flag haters saw a opportunity to blame the flag. The weak pliable people of this country ate it up.tunnelcat wrote:I don't think you're seeing enough, or else not wanting to see at all.

Re: Why Not
Keep in mind, that it's not the flag itself that is the problem. Like words, flags are symbols. meaningless in themselves but when context and behaviour are attached; such as a group flying it and engaging in certain actions, that flag takes on its own life and becomes what the group has stood for.woodchip wrote:Wait, the guy was not wearing the confederate flag yet all the uproar is over a flag he was not wearing? People attach themselves to symbols such as flags to create meaning. It's the largest meme in existence.

They also attach flags or banners to themselves to denote what tribe they belong to.Ferno wrote:People attach themselves to symbols such as flags to create meaning. It's the largest meme in existence.
He already waved that flag in a facebook picture. He liked it enough to hold it while taking his picture. Probably never got around to sewing a patch on his jacket. Close enough. By the way, that particular flag was originally the Northern Virginia battle flag that was eventually adopted by Confederate Army units so that they could distinguish themselves from the Northern Army Units. The main reason it stuck around after the war was because of a movement after the war called "Lost Cause" and a unrequited romanticism for the old South and the old ways, including slave owning. In more modern times, it became a symbol to denote white supremacy and racial intimidation, especially by the KKK, so blame them for perverting the flag's original meaning. I'm pretty sure Roof was interpreting the symbolism of the flag the good ol' KKK way.woodchip wrote:If Roof had carried a confederate flag into the church yelling, "The south shall rise again", you might have a point. Re: Why Not
The interesting bit, as I saw someone point out (and is pictured in that article), is that the actual Confederate battle standard was a square flag. The rectangular flag used today was actually never flown on any Civil War battlefield, which makes the suggestion of historical significance even more tenuous.
