the Pyro GX returns

Post by Spectre »

Hello everyone,
I'm here just to announce the majour update on my gallery, regarding the new pyro gx renders.
Now they are totally new, I had a direct talk with Eagle and we clarified all.
Now these are 100% made by me (and parallax software, obviously); even the textures now aren't image map based, but just procedurals and so on.
As usaual, I tried to stay as close as possible at the ORIGINAL, even looking at D1 ingame pics and D1/D2 geometries.
As you will notice, I also tried to reproduce the popular D1 7th level Mercury mine boss area, and just added some details that i thought could be there if D1 engine allowed it

Hope now you can enjoy them

edit: and please...provide a reason for your poll choice

Daum. I don't suppose we could convince you to make those into in-game models?

That I imagine is what Descent would look like if it was remade with the doom3 graphics engine. Very Pretty :)

As expected
Wow man, I explicitly said IT DOESN'T USE any kind of textures!...your gx skin (or, better, Eagle's model skin) maybe has the same rusty-bumped look, but aren't the same.
Is it enough, or do you want me to post the procedural textures previews with the parameters i used, or I should provide you their source code...don't know..

The pics don't really show the textures well but fromt he shape of the ship, it looks like the same ones. I'm not accusing you of anything but they do look similar.

And you're asking that? sure! Go! :D

Game models.. O_o the first version had alredy too many polys...this has about 20.000! neither halflife2 engine could support it! I should make a low-poly version..and at this point use eagle's model! Maybe I could realize some models for the weapons for a d1/2 looking mod.
But i neither used 3dstudiomax, so how to import it in the outrage's strange file formats?

Oh... Yeah, that's a bit much...

I just wish D3 looked more like your renders and less like, well, what it does. ;) There where people about a year ago who where making game models, but they all dropped the projects.

Yeah, the Pyro-GX scenes look awesome. What we all wished D1 looked like even though it was beyond the technology of the time.

By the way, both Milkshape and 3D Studio files can be converted to D3 files.

i was trying to get Eagle's GX into Battlefield Vietnam once, but I got some texture errors or something so I gave up on it.

Try it in BF 1942, Vietnam had a double layer texture system or some such.

Dude, I love the artwork. The surroundings are some of the most realistic I've seen yet.

The one thing that gets me is that most of the 3D models done of the Pyro is too thin. Top to bottom-wise that is.

Too bad the model for the one in the D2 opening movie can't be found. Anyone have any ideas who did it as a bit of trivia? The specific artist that is.

I meant Spectre. I was surprised that someone could make a shot of that ship that makes it look appealing (yes, my hate for the Phoenix runs deep) :P. Great work, Spectre. Keep it up, and get a Magnum render out soon :D.

yes I know he is always joking
He doesn't understand that the similarity is a positive thing, because you feel it's the real phoenix whithout any polycount limit.
IF he's not joking, i could write here an infinite number of things that can trash its theories

But, you know, I'm not pleased of acting as an enemy of any descenter here! :(
