As the title, says I would like to ditch cable and get some device to connect. It must be able to accept hardware as my wifi to my TV area sucks.
I've looked at Roku.
I'm not interested in paying monthly fees right now but might in the future.
I will want to be able to watch hockey come Oct and that I would pay for.
Any suggestions welcomed.
Thanks

It may surprise you how much you can get over the air these days on digital TV, buy a simple antenna and do a channel scan.
Otherwise Roku and Amazon fire sticks are pretty good. Just keep in mind all of these devices have a glorified potato chip for a processor so their interfaces never quite escape the lag if you start loading heavier apps on them.

I'll second that. I have every channel there is due to my work, but I watch local stations the most. There is a Tivo over the air box you can get if you want a slick DVR service without building your own. Almost everything other than that is netflix/hulu/amazon etc and other stuff thats available on every roku/stick thing available. I think you can load netflix/hulu/amazon apps in that tivo box as well now.
