After a long and drawn out 3.5 years in a body shop...

We pulled it from the shop Saturday night, and I proceeded to finish the assembly and detail work around 2:30AM. I took it to a car show the next morning (8:00AM) and we won "Best of the 60's" out of 300 registered cars!

Nicely done! Did you do most of the work yourself?

I did all of the mechanical, Engine, suspension, steering, ie.. every nut and bolt.

I don't really have the knack for body work, so I turned it over to a body shop that proceeded to leech cash out of me over the next 3.5 years (The car was originally supposed to be done in 6 months)

This June we pulled the car from that shop under threat of a lawsuit and turned it over to a more professional buisness. The new shop corrected the previous work, and laid down a coat of metallic charcoal grey in only 30 days. It's so nice to work with pros!

Awesome! I'm like you, I do everything myself but I give out the bodywork and repainting to a professional. However, since I want to limit the costs as much as possible, I'm sanding down the current paint entirely myself with my home garage equipment :)

Not quite finished, but I'm slowly getting there... Although I've been prepping another car for the track the last week. I'm driving on Spa-Francorchamps next weekend :D

Nice Stang Clutch!!
Engine?
Numbers matching?
Want to sell it :)

It is a labor of love, is it not :D
I think framing the paint out to the pros is the best way to go, sure it costs more and you have to be carefull about who you pick (as you found out). But in the end the paint is so much better.

Sound: A couple of years ago I had to convince a guy at Midas to install a set of Thrush Super Turbo mufflers (12.95 @ K-Mart) to replace a set I blew out while I was tuning the car (backfire). After 1/2 hour of convincing, he welded the puppies on. After I started the car and gave it a test drive he had to ask:

1) Where did you get those mufflers?
2) How much were they?

It sounds Sweet! In fact when I first pulled into my driveway at 11:00PM my neighbor across the street flung open the door and shouted "Oh my god! You got your car back!" It has a very unique musclecar rumble that's not too loud when idling, but roars when you give it the gas!

After I cleaned up the plugs and timed it in I was barking the tires in 3rd.

Well, tire burnouts... I had my wife in the car with me and I let it loose at the light. I laid a nice patch of rubber from the light to the first street in our subdivision (about 300ft). Kind of a mistake, as she proceeded to b1tch me out for the next 20 minutes :)

You guys have no idea how freaking geeked I am right now!

Thanks guys!

I just finished the "Shelby" stripe on the lower door of the car. You will definatley know it's my car when you see it!

I'll post a pic and resize the others in the morning...

And yeah, that's my LAN room... what better place to store a sweet ride, full alarm system with 24hr video monitoring... Now if I could just get some "Descenters" to show up during a LAN party... :)

 HA! HA! HA!

For the last 15 years I am the only one who has driven this car. Even the bodyshop had to push it around to work on it. My wife has never once in the entire 8 years I have known her even bothered to ask that question!

Actually I take that back, one person has driven it... I had the car hooked up to an engine analyzer at the local Goodyear Dealership to check it out after I had finished rebuilding the motor. When I entered the place, I made the manager write down on the work order that the car was not to be driven at all (primarily because I had yet to have a mechanic double check all of my suspension work) Well, everything was fine, and the test was going well... Then I heard my car haul ass down the side street!

I looked over, and sure enough, the car was no longer in the tester bay. I grabbed the manager and asked WTF??? He said he didn't know, so I grabbed the phone and dialed up the police to report a stolen car.

The guy was gone for over 45 minutes, and the police had arrived, and were taking statements when he pulled up in my car. I immediately noticed that the hood was sitting funny... Turns out that knucklehead didn't secure the hood, and it flew up on him at 60 or 70MPH! Well, the hood was trashed, the passenger hood hinge was torn from the firewall, and the hood obviously no longer closed properly!

After the manager fired him on the spot, he was arrested for GTA (He got probation and had to fork over some repair cash)

The Goodyear dealership also provided a full set of tires, and $500.00 for my trouble.

So now whenever someone asks, I have to reply...
NOBODY DRIVES MY CAR!!!"
