Teh D1. Single player on insane, or co-op on insane is the most fun!

Nostalgia freaks. It's GOTTA be D3.

D1 is gonna be great when I can play it on my phone, but on a big screen it's ugly.

D1x 1.43 with 8x AA and 8x aniso filter doesnt look that ugly. Its no Doom3 but the gameplay is better.

Pfft! It only looks ugly on your POS video card. D1 looks great on my GF4 maxed out. :) Maybe it looks ugly on your "big screen" because your video card is overheating and bent over 45 degrees because of all that weight? ;)

d1 for pure skill versus skill games. d3 for team action. ctf, monsterball, guardian, entropy, etc is what made d3 cool.

d2 was pure ass.

D3 CTF was actually fun... the rest of it was a waste of time compared to what it used to be like.

I do, just barely, have to put my vote in for D2 over D1 though. The molasses feel of the non-augmented player ship is quite a minus, but all the new cool stuff made up for it in my opinion. (The other new stuff that sucked could generally be removed)

Everyone that voted D2 must have never got into any serious D1 SP game with a Fusion cannon, its the best gameplay of all three.

I agree D1 Fusion was pretty exciting (esp. spray-and-pray and hope someone shows up to catch the blobs in the face :P), but it doesn't make up to all D2 has to offer instead.

D1 for me. I've played it through a cable but never on line. There just seemed more of a rush about it.

There are two types of Descent players; those who know what UES is and those that don't. ;)

UES, or Ultra Earth-Shaker, was basically a legend in the days of D2... the most well-known Shaker level out there. (Gigadeath, or at least its 2 and 4 incarnations, was also popular, but not so much.)

The fact that it was a fairly amateur effort by a fairly amateur designer didn't stop anyone. :) UES became probably the second most famous D2 level after Minerva 2...

I really didn't think much of smart mines myself. :] Sure, they require good tactical thinking to set properly, but your piloting skills can be utter crap and you can still use them. At least prox bombs had a -little- class... because nobody used them... :]

But I guess that was it with Descent 2 - they added a handful of weapons that actually required skill to use... like the super lasers, Gauss cannon, Phoenix cannon, Flash missiles and Mercury missiles... then there were the downright cheap yet occasionally wildly amusing ones like the Helix cannon, Omega cannon, Guided Missile, Smart Mine and Earthshaker Missile...

Yay, nostalgia baby. :]

I always like Keg Party 1, Keg 2, aside from being a "pirated work", wasn't too bad either. Was Awesome for Horde.

Oh yeah. Keg Party was one of the two best Hoard levels in the game... the other one being UES... :)

Descent 2.

It was Descent 1 but improved. Yes, I played all 3 games and finished them all. D1 had some redeeming qualities, but the atmosphere of D2, level design, bots, and the soundtrack really put it over the top. And im a sucker for cool cutscenes. :P

Descent 3 took what D1 and D2 had and bastardized it. Multiplayer is cool, but the singleplayer was a bore and a half.

Funny you mention the soundtrack. D1 had a great MIDI score, but the D2 soundtrack was absolutely brilliant. There's a particular song where the rhythm actually matches the ship bobbing. Add some lava noise in the background and the adrenaline is there :P

The D3 soundtrack was a dreadful thing. I mean, it wasn't even music, it was noise to get upset about while playing. It didn't help the game at all.

Ah, UES.. Where are the days.
"Who the ★■◆● blew up the reactor???" lol
I did a fair bit of marker-camping in UES.. That absolutely ruled :D
