O BOY HERE WE GO AGAIN
I have never had this much trouble playin' a game online! Thinking back to all the posts I have read about how this community is dying I'm beginning to see part of the reason why this is so. I don't need to tell any of you how extremely frustrating it can be to attempt to do somthing and not meet your objectives(perserverance only gets ya' so far). I have been trying to get on here for almost 2 weeks now and so far have only managed to get into 1(one!) game! and even then I was only able to play for approx. 10 minutes before everyone left. At any rate, now when I try to get into a game I get all the way up to where it's loading the game(or tryin to) and then get the error message "failed to open mn.3 file" at which point it goes ahead and sends me to the "connecting" screen but then it gives me a "waiting for server" message that never goes away. I guess it's somthing I did but I'm not sure. Thanx, in advance, for any help forthcoming on this subject.

max the problem you are experiencing is due to the fact that you don't have the levels installed.
Here are a couple workarounds to this.
First, you can join a game by inputting the proper IP address and port in the built-in D3 TCP/IP browser. When you run across a level that is not installed on your machine, you will be prompted to download the mission from a list of websites. The problem with this is that many levels have broken autodownload links.
Second, you can view the games list and download the missions that you see being played from planet descent, and place the mn3 file in your C:Games/Descent3/Missions directory. (or wherever you have d3 installed).
Next time you have a problem related to joining a game etc, your best bet is to get in CHAT and ask what's going on. We chat on IRC, on the gamesurge network, #Descent3 channel. There's ALWAYS someone willing to help out a poor defenseless newbie to his ultimate doom!

You can get 120 levels here: http://www.koolbear.com/Descent/levels/ ... SSIONS.zip ~100MB IIRC..

120 Sorry for that, I's trying to go a bit more easy after I figured who you were but Burning Indika 3 makes it quite hard -- it's a "shoot-1st-else-you-are-dead" level esp. if there're some good tanks like -Server- and Korruption in there. I'd recommend you stick to the Pyro for a while, a Phoenix is definately not a beginners ship (esp. in Bi3 ). The Pyro has excellent overall balance, after you got a good grip on it try the other ships. A good level to get some practice in is Damage, one of the most versatile levels there is (nice looking too).
Edit: oh, forgot -- before you hop into a CTF game, please please read this Descent 3 Capture the Flag Strategy guide -- it'll make your life a bit easier in Halcyon or Varicose Veins

type kills are legal, thats why they are there. you especially cant complain when your standing... wait correction, floating in the middle of a room between a battle. if you decide to type in the middle of one, then die, its your own fault.
im usually nice to newbs... but i do anything when they try to hault a game just so they can look around. try observer. thas why its there. or piggyback observer.

Space...please, don't even go there by falsely accusing me...I was invited into someones room to look around and learn in my ship...you came in afterwards and were prolly gigglin' like a lil' girl about what u had done. Also...in no way whatsoever did I "halt" gameplay to type. I recall (clearly) typing in a room when you came into said room and not only did you do it once, you did it again when I moved into a corner, nose down, and began typing. I am 38 years old young man, and have enuff common sense and logic to discern correct movements even in an alien environment. Btw, I do not care if you type kill, I just prefer it to not happen to me is all. And if I have to take the kind of action that I have thusfar to prevent it, so be it. Have a wonderful day!Spaceboy wrote:type kills are legal, thats why they are there. you especially cant complain when your standing... wait correction, floating in the middle of a room between a battle. if you decide to type in the middle of one, then die, its your own fault.

wow quickest transformation from a newb, to a n00b.
i recall you saying "everyone hold fire please!!"
and as i said i dont like it when people say that, so instincivly, i blow them up. sticking your nose in a corner during a fight doesnt mean crap. you cant complain about napalm blobs or frags floating around, or some stray fire hitting you.

Yeah Max, don't sweat Spacecombat (heh that name hit the nail on the head, I wish I'd thought of it)...he's just another useless troll, with no game, a lousy attitude, and a chip on his shoulder...and he's only 13 years old, so it only goes downhill from there.
A word to the wise on typekilling: Type when you're dead...or use observer mode to type...or don't complain when you die...That's pretty much the consensus on typekilling by anyone with any game at all...

You see, he asked where I had been and I told him I left the room when he came in to avoid being ty....on second thought, I'm thru with this topic..end of thread.max kragen wrote:Btw, I do not care if you type kill, I just prefer it to not happen to me is all.
