The new Batmobile
The new Batmobile
Is it just me or does the new Batmobile stink?
Dont get me wrong. Im a big fan of the series. I just saw the first Batman movie this past weekend which is the best IMO and also brougt back nice memores of my childhood as I have seen that movie on the silver screen once. And Batman is clearly the best of the superheroes. I am eagerly anticipating Batman: Begins which gets released next year.
And one of the things I love is the movie version of the Batmobile. However I am not as excited about the new one. It looks like a lunar lander of sorts. Or some kind of ATV. I dont know, it doesnt look like much and not worthy to be called the Batmobile. I hope the movie will be better than the car. Here are some pics:

It's a prototype. Remember, he just became Batman, so hes going to be tinkering around with several different design concepts. However it looks exactly how you describe it and not really what you'd think Batman would have started out with.
One of the things I've disliked about the Batman movies is the inconsistency of the Batmobile. Well that and the inconsistency of the actors playing Batman. The Batmobile used in Batman and Batman Returns is by far the best one ever made. It was intimidating and just plain cool looking.
I was hoping the batmobile in this movie would be some sort of hybrid of the one used in the first two movies and perhaps the one from the Animated series being that those are the best ones I've seen but alas, it just isn't so.
I too give it a thumbs down.

Bring back the Ford Futura concept car!
I hate the movie ones... they all look like they could pull double duty at the local porn shop (in miniature form)
I always hoped that they would modify the original TV series car a bit.
That thing is a friggin joke. Was there ever one that looked like that in the comic? If there was, I don't remember it. Thumbs down!

Top, I suggest you get acquainted with material that's closer and a lot more faithful to the comic book origin of Batman instead of the four craptacular movies. First of all, even the first Batman does not get the character right, and the Batmobile in BB, is the Tumbler from the Year One series of comics. A prototype as you've said, but more than that, the director of BB wanted things to look "real" and "functional" in the movie, not comic-booky or unrealistic. Whatever you think about its looks, the '89 Batmobile would look out of place in BB. It's a gritty mystery-crime-thriller, not a stupid neo-gothic stylization that Burton thought was more appropriate.
If you want to know Batman, watch Mask of the Phantasm or any episode from the 90s TAS.
And those pics are old too! Didn't you see any of the pics from the Chicago filming?

Its nice how they are going back to traditional Batman. No I have not seen the latest pics. However I and many others first saw Batman in 89 and loved it. I thought Tim Burton's direction was great. And I also look forward to a more realistic crime thriller in the plot, and its a plus that things will be "functional" as even though I loved the 89 car, I thought the shields thing was a bit far-fetched. I still like the style of it though!
Now if they can mix the 89 car and include a decent crime-thriller plot ill be in heaven.

The way the Batmobile looked in the first Batman movie, and subsequently in the animated series, is probably the best version of them. It captured the somewhat menacing look of the vehicle in the corny 60s show, but ditched the red trim and streamlined the whole deal.
That new Batmobile is just goofy.

Its called batman "BEGINS"
'course the batmobiles are different. its like comparing picard's ship to captain kirk's ship in star trek. the past and the future.
this movie is steered more towards the batman comic books instead of the cheese of the previous films.
the script was good. story will be darker. but its another origin film.
I expect things to kick into full gear in the sequels.
he fights ninjas in this one.

This car is a Lincoln "Futura" and never made it into production. It was shown numerous times as a prototype at car shows in the mid-50's - before finally finding a home as the Batmobile.llClutchll wrote:http://www.hal2003.com/images/batmob1.jpg

Here's a neat website with all kinds of pics.
http://www.chickslovethecar.com/
The "Keaton Car" is acutally based on a stretched Chevy Impala which has a Chevy V8. It seems the C3 Corvette wanted to copy a little bit the front of the Batmobile. o_O. So I suppose if I cant get the Batmobile, the next best thing is to get a black C3 Corvette.
