Overclocking my silly little 1.8GHz AMD 64 3000+

Post by STRESSTEST »

The Winchester core is 90 nanometer and runs at 1.8GHz stock

I am using the OCZ PC3200 EL Platinum rev2 1 gig kit (2x512) in dual channel. This ram is the Samsung TCCD chips.

Here's the highest so far

Image

That's the same clock speed as the $1000 FX55 (but half the cache) and I paid 145 for this chip

To test the CPU only for grins I used N-Bench3

Here are the results (All 3d is rendered on the CPU, not VGA)

http://stresstest.2y.net/images/dbb/N-Bench3@1.8.txt
@ 1.8GHz 200FSB 1:1 4xHT(Default)

http://stresstest.2y.net/images/dbb/N-Bench3@2.16.txt
@ 2.16GHz 240FSB 1:1 4xHT

http://stresstest.2y.net/images/dbb/N-Bench3@2.34.txt
@ 2.34GHz 260FSB 1:1 3xHT

http://stresstest.2y.net/images/dbb/N-Bench3@2.54.txt
@ 2.54GHz 280FSB 1:1 3xHT

http://stresstest.2y.net/images/dbb/N-Bench3@2.61.txt
@ 2.61GHz 290FSB 1:1 3xHT

Once I spend some time tomorrow locking up the voltages and getting it stable (If possible) I should be able to get those timings back down to 2.5-3-3-6.. we'll see.

Krom, run this on that 1700+ and post your results.

It's folding fast too :) 26 minutes frames on the 600's

for those who are interested in getting one, make sure you get a newer week, 44+...those have improved memory controllers for better overclocking.

stress, what week, batch is it?

DO they actually sort through them @ the seller or do you have to take luck of the draw?

Excaliberpc.com used to tell you what batch the chips where from, but would charge a few bucks more for the desirable ones. If the model code of AMN3000BIX5AR and stepping code of CAABC 0417TPMW means anything to anyone, that's what they've marked their current supply of 3000+s as.

I'm building a new A64 system myself with the MSI Neo 2 mobo, so this is good information. :)

What kind of cooling did you use?

little more info for you guys

Image

This is how you tell what you have in 64 land. The highlighted numbers are info for the year/week

0447 is the chip above, 04 means the year (2004) and 47 means the week (week 47)

The stepping is right after (TPAW) but that doesn't seem to mean jack in 64 land.

What does matter is the week, the newer the better. The newest I've seen on the forums is a 0451 that does 3 gigs (3200+) and is crazy fast.

05XX should be making it to stores now.

Nice overclock! :)
I got my 64 2800 up to 2.39GHz without any voltage changes.
I'll update my personal system once the Socket M2s arrive in 2006.
