F-Zero GX
F-Zero GX
Hey guys, I just picked this game up and I was wondering if you guys could share some tims with me? Oh, and what are some of your best times?
I was really disappointed in F-Zero GX. If anything, it showed me that, yes Virginia, it is possible to make a racing game that goes too fast. The controls felt extremely twitchy, moreso than F-Zero X, and the tracks felt like they were built for races half their speed.
At least Fire Field was kinda' neat though.

You've gotta be kidding! It's not fast enough! Haha. Anyway I love the game, it's so bloody addictive (and CHALLENGING!).
Tips: You will not complete any of the Story Mode missions on the first attempt. At least, I highly doubt it. The last mission took me about 40 separate attempts and an inherent memorization of the track. That may sound discouraging but believe me, it's very rewarding to pull off what might seem to be the impossible.
I drive with the L and R shoulder buttons held in almost 100% of the time to pull corners without losing speed.
I prefer the slower accelerating but high top speed type racers more than anything.
You can unlock the Diamond Cup by completing all three of the Grand Prix modes in STANDARD mode or higher. Novice is a good place to start but Standard isn't really that much harder.
The Hyper Speeder is one of my favorite pre-fab racers. Your style might be totally different so be sure to try out a few.
The Blue Falcon is overrated. Haha.
You may notice when going through the Sapphire, Emerald & Diamond Cup series you'll run into levels where you fall off constantly. Practicing the levels ahead of time (ie, attempting to go through them until you complete three laps in a row without falling off) is very helpful and often necessary to sucessfully completing a GP circut. I still having finished the Diamond Cup on any difficulty, mind you.
That's about it! I hope you enjoy this game as much I do, good luck!

You know a racing game is too fast when you're racing along and notice that the road texture does not appear to be moving, even though everything else is.
And it's discouraging that F-Zero GX now demands rote memorization of tracks. The previous F-Zeros never had tracks that were particularly difficult or laden with falloff areas. There, the skill was in navigating the tracks better than everyone else, not memorizing and avoiding the cheap instant-death challenge around every curve. In short, the tracks of the past favored simplicity rather than being beasts of their own - that was left to the other players.

imho, this is not the design of a good game.

Uh, isnt drift steering geared for high acceleration machines?
Anyhoo, for GP I've been using the Stingray and for Time attack Ive been using the mighty hurricane. I'm at such a point on the Casino Palace - Double Branches track that I could almost drive it blind I'm obsessed with this track, ahehaeha.
