Geist,

check the 'show hud' option in the render options menu.

For some reason all but the first part of the D1 briefing seems to be broken. The entire file (ending.txb) only has 720 bytes. The last few bytes are bogus. I have no clue what's wrong here. You can check the file by loading descent.hog into DLE-XP, checking 'show all files' and move the selection bar to 'ending.txb' (files are displayed alphabetically sorted by DLE-XP).

Edit:

Probably endreg.txb is the proper file, but I still get some bogus briefing screens with it.

Can you make screen shots of each D1 end game briefing screen and post them here (max. 800x600)?

I just updated from 1.5.109 to 1.5.134. When I start any D1 savegame, the textures are all wrong. This is a screenshot of a D1 savegame in level 10 with 1.5.109:

Note that if I start a new D1 game with 1.5.134, even at level 10, the textures look fine. And this is after just copying the contents of the D2X-XL zip folder into my Descent directory.

I have looked through the D1 code and applied another fix to D1 end game briefing playback by D2X-XL. Currently uploading 1.5.134b. Give it a shot and tell me whether it's alright now.

Silencer,

old D1 savegames don't work with the current D2X-XL anymore because I have completely changed D1 texture handling. Proceed to the next level, or start from a save game short before finishing the previous level.

Diedel, you're going to hate me. I was wrong about the ship not banking while turning in D1. I just tested normal D1 and it banked. Sorry. =(

I really do remember noticing the difference in D2. Maybe it's like that episode of Slider's where the Golden Gate bridge is blue or that episode of TNG where the vanill cake turns into chocolate cake and it's really because Worf is jumping between different parallel universes... or something.

Thanks a lot, Diedel, for making me start that level over!! :) :(

One more thing. Did you change how the sound is different? The sound effects and MIDI music sound way different somehow. I checked the d2x.ini to make sure that the d1sounds switch was set to 1, and it is.

Does it sound different from before I introduced the use_d1sound switch, or after? If from before: D1 sound is sampled at 11 KHz which means pretty low quality.

It sounds different from 1.5.109, when I had the sample22k and use_d1sound switches both on. I think it's something more than that. Taking a closer listen, with 1.5.134 (and the above switches enabled), the bots and doors make completely different sounds now. I'm not sure, but they sound like D2 effects.

D2X-XL does not use all D1 sounds, because that failed to work. It only uses the boss and ambient lava sounds now, if use_d1sounds is enabled.

Diedel-

The missions that fail to load also fail to load if I put them in a HOG file.

Also, some missions that are already in HOG files have the same problem:

Now I only have two or so screens, one of them immediately disappears when the text is written and continues writing on the next page. Then I see a screen with the planet in the background, I think it's the one with the earth from the first few levels, but it disappears after 0.x seconds to bring you to the score screen with the boni, it's even hard to see.

I'd need an older version to screen the briefing, if you give me a link I can try, but uh, I've seen like 20-30 screens until I escaped :oops:

Shouldn't you be able to make a hiscores entry after finishing the game?

The HUD toggles works, but every time I restart the game it switches back to off, and the skill now always switches back to rookie too.

And I'm having some kind of performance problems in the briefings and robot introductions, the animations are not smooth when the text is being written, but when the text is finished it's ok. I've had bad performance problems with D2 movies too, but that one got fixed recently.

Oh yeah, I've also got told that the secret level three in Lv24 is destroyed and the exit disabled... think it shouldn't be that way since it's the only chance to enter that level? I was stuck in Lv24 then (second time after Lv4 reactor room) because it would completely lock up when you use the normal exit, about when the camera would switch to 3rd person view... had to reset machine twice :o But thankfully it works in the later versions.

Having an issue with multiplayer...
There doesn't seem to be any way to specify the server's port when joining a UDP netgame, only your own. So if the server isn't listening on the default port, you're doomed.

Also, does the tracker deal properly with NAT?

Problems in version 1.5.35:

Everytime i shoot a Super Laser, it shows HUD message of not primary weapons available. Also, if i have the super laser, when i press the laser hotkey, it returns to laser level 4 and after that, i can't select super laser anymore. And also, if i use the cheat Honestbob it gives me quad laser 4, no super lasers. And if i use cheat Alifalafel, and i had quad lasers, i loose it whit this cheat.

And on D2X-XL levels with colored light, if i shoot a lamp, it doesn't darkens the room, remains full bright. It only happens on this version. Also, with colored lights, the level is completely full lighted, even when there is no lights! And blinking lights doesn't work also in these levels.

1.5.135:

#1: In D1, only the D2 primary weapon icons are displayed, and some of the secondary icons are from D2. There are only 5 of each, but it's the wrong five. See screenshot:

#2: If lightmaps are on, disabling colored lighting has no effect. I think the colored lighting in the mine looks bad, so I want to disable it.

#3: In D1, when colored light maps (colored lighting?) is on, there is an area of red light directly ahead in level 1:

D2 movies are still playing instead of D1 Mission briefings.

I still can't load those certain D1 Missions. I can load them from normal D1.

Descent 2 demos appear on the \"View Demo\" menu even if I don't have the \"Play D2 Missions\" box checked. It tells me I don't have the mission installed.

#7:

Something I noticed: I tried to load Athena and it failed to load. I let the game sit at the main menu and then the automatic demo started playing. The objects and robots were from the original demo, but the level was Athena. The player was flying through the walls and stuff.

This happens with all my missions where the RDL is outside the HOG file.

404 because I pulled 1.5.136 back due to a pending issue (not caused by D2X-XL though).

I simply took DLE-XP, extracted blakrose.rdl from blakrose.hog, renamed blakrose.hog so D2X-XL couldn't find it, and that worked. I will try Nysa.

Black Rose works fine on mine too. It's not one of the ones that was broken.

Wheee. We just played a nice long 3-way game. =)

Bugs in 1.3.136:

#1: My PPS setting keeps resetting to what's set in the d2x.ini in-between games and when I quit out of the multiplayer menu.

#2: If I have my radar on, and then start a game with \"show players on automap\" unchecked, if I go back to singleplayer, my radar is now turned off.

#3: If I start a game with mouselook enabled on the server, it automatically makes me use mouselook even if I don't have the mouselook box checked in my config.

#4: High Quality movies seem to use my desktop resolution. They play fine if I uncheck \"full screen\", but in full screen they're all choppy regardless of where my in-game resolution is set. My desktop resolution is 2048x1536.

I running the latest version of D2X-XL here and I seem to run into a problem with weapon selecting. For example if I am using the Fusion cannon and I select the Omega cannon with the number 5 key. I can not switch back to the Fusion cannon. Same thing goes for primary and secondary weapons. But only when going from a D1 weapon to a D2 weapon, after that I can’t switch back. The only way I go back is if I use the ( < > ) keys instead. Is this some kind of bug?

I got the same thing with 1.5.136. Version 1.5.134 weapons toggle works normal.

Well, that's a bug then. Weapon management in D2 is messed up because of the handling of the super laser.

I need to know where D2X-XL crashes when playing D1 missions. A savegame from short before a crash occurs would be very helpful.

Ok I like the idea the idea that the D1 bosses can teleport again rather than just sit there. But why do the bosses from D1, D2, and Vertigo come and charge right at me. I don't know if this was mentioned before, but that is not Bosses normal behavior?

For me it seems to be random. The first crash occured immediately after hitting the exit. I played the same level to recreate it, and it crashed short of, while just fighting robots.

Haven't crashed from playing D2 missions yet though.

Under 1.5.137 I am unable to configure the sensivity of individual joystick axes when I uncheck \"sync joystick axes\". None of the changes I make to the axes seem to stick.

#2: Most of the weapon icon-related menu options seem to have no effect. The only one that does anything is the one that enables or disables it. Small weapon icons don't make them small, and the only orientation I can get is left/right with the inventory at the top.

#4: My framerate still completely dies when I use a small game window. This is just to verify that it still happens:

#5: When I enable radar or rear view in my right HUD viewport, the background color of the shield value display changes funny colors:

good work with the lights, now they are much better. :)

?,136,137 (i didn't check older versions) :
Playing d2x levels ( Glass House, Speed, ...?) results in random CTDs.
Also some of the walls that should be transparent aren't (like the big green ones in Glass House).
Normal D2 levels work fine.
I didn't test any D1 levels.

Regarding the crashes I was getting (Which happens kind of often), I got the crash report, but I wasn't sure how to copy it down (Or if it would be any help). It said it included this following xml file it put in a temp folder.
