This may be a bit more wishful thinking, and a complete slaughter on our side. But it would be hilarious if\\when D4 comes out that we could have a Multiplayer game, D4 vs. Crysis, which we would completely waste them on, but, it'd be cool anyhow. Really prove which game is better.

it will be at least 3 years before we see another installment.

I cannot wait! But will :(

It won't be called Descent 4.

After an hour googling I do think we are going to get a new DESCENT! So sez the Interplay CEO...

I can wait another 3 years. I waited this long.

Now if we can get the old school Descenters to use their nicks from the old days.

I've never bought stock in any company but I think I will now.

I hated D3. They changed the way the Pyro handled and it wasn't near as fun.

Interplay should release another sequel to Die By the Sword, but this time on the Wii.

If Interplay releases it, they will come...

We're all still lurking around here...we just dont post...

I dont think D4 graphics will be top of the line for the generation it comes with, if it comes. Also, if it uses good enough graphics, we'll have no D4edit.

But all the Descents had top of the line visuals, breaking new ground in realism. D4 can't break that tradition.

Ya Descent 1 even beat Quake 1 to the door with fully polygonal ships and enemies.

But i do find it hard to visualize how realistic a modern Descent game would be. We're breaking pretty far into photorealism thesedays. So Sci-fi is getting harder and harder to pull off - afterall, you have to make convincing photorealistic immersion outof something vastly fictional.

photorealism is leaving less and less left to the imagination, artists have their work cut out for them as they can't skimp on the details and \"just let the player's imagination fill in the pixelated blanks\" :(

Well, we need physics to provide fully destructable environments.

We need nukes to look real and affect the environment in a real way.

We need a person hit with a gernade to have his body parts scattered and blood everywhere, liquid blood.

We need much more realism on water, rain, snow, and tornadoes.

And most important, we need to be able to enter space in D4 like we could go outside with D3, a fully functional solar system with detail down to the blades of grass in a field.

EDIT

More News:
http://www.bit-tech.net/news/2008/04/10 ... _planned/1

"First and foremost for the company right now is to get to work on a Fallout MMO to help raise revenue further and then plunge the money into developing sequels to established brands that are sure to sell...The developer is hoping to start work on sequels for the Earthworm Jim, MDK, Descent and Dark Alliance franchises in the near future."

So first we need to see a Fallout MMO success before we see D4.

And wiki has been updated, a source that is always correct because the people define truth, at least the fast ones:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Descent_4

Interplay is also working on their website internally:
http://www.interplay.com/games

The site exists, you just can't access it.

The picture tells it all

Stock is up 1 cent from yesterday. If you invested, you already have earned something ;-)

lol - not much, but this is a long-term (3 year) investment I would think.

Throw a couple hundred bucks to get some cheap stock now - could pay off in the future. And yeah, it could turn out to be worht nothing later. But personally, I think the risk to reward is too great to pass it up.

I just have to open a trading account somewhere.

Just as Descent \"made\" me buy a Voodoo video card, maybe the new Descent will \"make\" me buy a phyics processor card.

Imagine blowin up \"mining\" the cave walls to get to special levels with millions of pieces of stuff flying around. Or blocking advancing bots with a cave-in.

And yes we old Descent players do lurk around here. Anyone seen Nietzel?

Um, Ageia is dead and with them is the PPU. All physics will either be done on Larrabee or the GPU or both if Larrabee makes it as a CPU platform.

As for Interplay stock, I would invest as much in Interplay as I would be willing to pay for Descent 4. That way, even if this all was a flop, I would feel that I bought the game, and better yet, how much lower can their stock fall, I can probably sell for the same I bought the stock for.

My dad checked it out today as I told it it might be an idea to buy up on some if the stock, and it is currently at $.11, so it is rising rapidly...

Wow, and it was 6.5 cents this morning. I guess those who invested $100 yesterday are happy now. Better invest before the price gets too high people!

Interplay is coming back and those who invest are going to get rich. $100 today could mean $10000 in 3 years. Could have been $20000, but shame on those who didn't invest this morning.

When you play with cents, you can make big bucks.

Only 4,000 shares traded yesterday, today has over 200,000.

I want to buy stock but cannot seem to be able to. The major firms either don't handle Interplay or need $2000 to start investing.

Any help?

Anyone else here think \"Descent IV\" is way cooler than \"Descent 4\"?

My personal odds of this happening have gone from 6.02x10^23: 1 to 4.20x10^20:1, meaning that it's probably not going to happen, but even though the odds are \"better\", you'd have a better of getting hit by lightning in Death Valley.

I would like to point out that there is nothing new or revealing in that article, and certainly nothing definitive.

why?

Because it should be even more realistic than Crysis considering its coming 2010-2012.

Anyway, I was looking at some FreeSpace videos and thought this would make a cool scene in D4 if its about an invasion, doesn't have to be our star, just one of them. This is just so epic:

You know - That isn't anything from descent 4, it's from my old personal webpage back in 1998 for Descent 2. but thanks for showing you care

SO i guess you are the host of descent4.org, you can fix that too at your site

Also i think that first on is actually from Pyromania

I would calm down folks. They don't even have a development team yet and they've said the Fallout MMORPG comes first. That means *maybe* if everything works out they could start work on Descent 4 in what 5 years?

Also don't forget, they seem to have no money, they seem to be barely hiring (I can find one ad for a programmer), and they gave up the rights to the Descent name years ago. They're just name dropping to raise investment funds so I'll believe it when I see screenshots.

Believe it when it goes gold. They can kill a project at any time up to that.

No, the game too. Cancelled in 2002! Don't forget that Interplay does not and never did own the IP for Descent. Matt Toschlog and Mike Kulas do (as Parallax Software).

not according to Mike Kulas:
Mike Kulas wrote: Regarding Descent sequels, it's very unlikely that Volition would ever be involved in one. Interplay owns the sequel rights to Descent. It's possible Outrage will develop another Descent sequel, but I don't know what their plans are. I also don't know what Interplay's plans are for the franchise.
