Anyone ever seen Mushishi? I really enjoyed it. It may put some to sleep but it has pretty interesting story lines, some tragic.

Also, Ghost Hound was another good animes.

Grunt mecha are the best mecha, forget the usual super robot stuff (although it can be fun too).

There's a online multiplayer game from Taiwan called \"SD Gundam Online\" that I play occaisionally, and I typically only use the grunt types, and do rather well in them against the ridiculous ones like Wing Zero Custom or whatever.

Heh I remember that avatar Krom, but I didn't make the connection when I watched the show earlier this year. :P

I forgot to mention that I like (pseudo?) historical stuff. Rurouni Kenshin, Samurai Champloo, and especially the Vagabond manga. And naturally, jidai geki films (pardon my gratuitous Japanese, don't know an English term for this.)

Aye Rurouni Kenshin was very good, at least up till the filler, I should check the manga sometime if I can find it for a proper resolution. Samurai Champloo is an obvious direction to head after Cowboy Bebop, it just goes in the opposite direction for the time setting. I've heard the name Vagabond turn up a couple times, I'll have to investigate further at some point when I have the time. Jidaigeki means \"period drama\" and yeah most of it is very pseudo \"historical\" obviously. :P

I'm actually a pretty big sucker for stuff about delinquents and the gangs they usually end up in, it probably got started from watching Great Teacher Onizuka. However the only thing on that subject that I am currently following is Beelzebub: a manga about the meanest most heartless delinquent ever who becomes the unwilling foster parent of the child of the devil sent to earth to destroy humanity, hilarity ensues as he tries to find someone worse than himself to pass his new responsibility off to.

If I had to pick some favorites other than One Piece, it'd probably be Battle Angel Alita (AKA Gunnm) which is on hold/in limbo because of a dispute between the author and the publisher T_T, along with Full Metal Alchemist which finished not too long ago and Hoshi no Samidare (AKA The Lucifer and the Biscuit Hammer) also recently finished.

Series that are harder to recommend are either a little gory like Akumetsu (finished) or tremendously violent like Berserk which is ongoing and also goes on frustratingly long breaks between chapters. An alternative would be Claymore (ongoing) which is vaguely like Berserk in having the main character fighting people/monsters but gender swapped and without all the rape.

Thanks for the heads-up, I'll have to track this one down. :D

On the subject of ongoing series, I've got one that is getting really good:
http://www4.funimation.com/video/?page=show&b=319
Called Shiki, its 100% High Octane Nightmare Fuel once it gets going (new episodes air every Thursday at 12:15 PM CST).

When I was younger I watched a lot of Pokemon and Yu-Gi-Oh! Those were the days. My favorite animes are One Piece, Fullmetal Alchemist, Clannad, Death Note, Bleach, and Naruto.

Well, just my favs:

- Cowboy Bebop Subbed (FFS don't watch the American dubbed one. Urgh my ears).
- Ghost in the Shell (everything)
also anything by Hayao Miyazaki
- Wakfu (French! oui! rather recent).
- FLCL (short and fun)
- Gurren Lagann (Awesome post-evangelion re-constructionist take of the mecha genre, VERY FUN)

Actually the last 2 are both parody series, and both by Gainax. (i consider Gurren Lagann to be a parody, it's so uh... GIGGAAover-the-top). I think i'm seeing a trend here, i might check out Magical Shopping Arcade Abenobashi next (but i have the feeling it will just be like Excel Saga: rather fun in concept but mostly lacking in actual lulz).
Most Anime is infected with teenage male ego cliches, in dire need of a parody kick in the nuts. I'm gradually learning to avoid stuff made solely for kids.

Do American anime-style cartoons count?

There are a few, one of which I think is pretty funny.

Panty & Stocking

Panty & Stocking is Gainax/Japans take on what western animation is like. So basically if Ren and Stimpy had a lovechild with Powerpuff Girls, it would probably be similar to Panty & Stocking.

If you find that concept interesting, episodes can be viewed with a free account on Crunchyroll. (Beware if you sign up for a trial premium account using a credit card, they will start charging your card if you don't cancel before the trial is up. The difference between a free account and a premium account is that all episodes are delayed at least two weeks before the free accounts can view them.)

Yes TV Tropes is awesome and everyone should spend a week reading it (Probably the amount of time I think I've lost to it since I found it years ago). :P

Just beware: TV Tropes Will Ruin Your Life.

Yeah, that one was cute. Watch it with a girl.

I just thought of another good anime: Toradora! No super powers in this one, just a high school drama story. But it was good.

Bah @ Kugimiya Rie voiced Tsundere, they are a dime a dozen. :P The series also gradually falls apart after the first arc. Instead of that, try out Kimi ni Todoke which is about 100 times more Image than Toradora could ever be.

Not one of my top. But I have been watching one called Fairy Tail. 55 episodes later its not half bad. The show at times feels like its a cross between One Piece and Naruto. But with its own story line of course. Might be worth checking out.

Note: Fairy Tail is the name of their guild. So don't get intimate by the title.

FT is often labeled \"One Piece lite\" but its still plenty good on its own. Can't ever get tired of seeing bad guys get punched with fire. Although one can definitely get tired of it always being about Jellal...

The Jella part did stale quickly.

Yeah and it isn't over yet, this arc and the next feature him prominently. Plus there is still room for him to return yet again after that.

While the show is continues to build the hype over Zeref and why the dragons vanished. I have a feeling Jellal will be right in the middle. I don't hate his character. I just wish for the story to focus else well.

One Piece is pretty lite as it is.

No point in starting a new thread.

Just got done watching one called Claymore. I actually liked show as the story line kept me on edge. But this show is rather dark and very bloody.
