I like it, but I bet I'll like HL2 10x more... Doom 3 is just too dark so far and it gets old quick going through hardly lit passageway after hardly lit passageway... heh
Thats my opinion so far.

I can't get myself immersed. I'm trying to get myself scared shitless, I really am, but I'm finding myself completely sangfroid and the entire scenario hard to believe. I don't think I've even jumped, which even Wolf3d pulled off a few times with a well placed SS guard.
I guess a large part of it is the lack of real plot development. They pretty much said
oh here's the devil caged, oh whops, he's released [scream, scream]
. Maybe it's also because I've only made it to the first autosave, but still, I expected much more. Maybe I'm just desensitized too? That, and after playing for a while, my FPS drops from 60 to about 2-3 until I restart the program. I don't see myself shelling any $$$ over for this game.

I got Doom 3 Tuesday at 12:01am complete with autographs from some of the ID Developers. It is an amazing game. The graphics are outstanding, so much so that I cant play with my house completely dark, I have to have at least one light on. I haven't even bothered to touch multiplayer yet, and might not, thats what I play UT2k4 and BF1942 for. I think it was more than worth 50 bucks.

For those of you who have almost beaten it or come close, does it ever change?
Its a good game, but its kind of like Halo singleplayer. After the first "wow this is cool", it then starts to all look the same. What it looks like is really nice, but still the same...

Hell, the fricken graphics alone remind me of Halo. I think I'll wait for HL2.

Really? The graphics remind me most of Unreal 2, except U2 had outdoor areas and a hot chick.

DIII Rocked, Playing it again....Looks nothing like Unreal2kX (btw ut2kx was copy of Q3)
Some parts are very spooky! and some are just Evil
Took a look around the community, mods have surfaced very quickly for DIII

I've completed the Alpha Labs portion on Veteran. I really like it, really getting into it. People are complaining about it being dark, but that's just part of the story IMO. Use the flashlight a lot. Hell, the place gets trashed by monsters and the lights go out. Seems logical to me.
This is definitely the most I've gotten into a new game in a while, probably since Diablo II.
