I would suppose so, but kroms really the only one decent out of those you mentioned.

Interesting list.

It's all subject to which pilot does the ratings and the pilots they have played with and against in D3... As well as the timeframe that they played against them.

Odd that someone would put themselves in their own top 20 Descent Pilots list.

I played with a lot of very skilled Descent Pilots that weren't even placed on that list.

Frankly there were way too many people to play with to play with everyone.

Perhaps it would have helped if I could have stood Core map. Core always got me to extreme feeling of vertigo after perhaps 10 minutes... felt sick to my stomach and just had to stop... then go play some other maps.

Hmmm... Some excellent pilots weren't even mentioned in your list... SickOne, Rican, Mad, Bama, Fester Addams, Dr. Payne, etc.

There were many excellent pilots in D3 so to pick your top 20 is not an easy task.

I miss a lot of D3 players and the fun just playing D3 online with them.

As for me, I was strickly a team player... and as such preferred to play Entropy, CTF, and Coop Modes most.

Probably spent more time in D3 chat than in D3 Online Games.

Happy Hunting,
SirWinner

people still think supersheep is legit? god.

trust me will_kill, that everyone on that top 20 list was, or are still hoping for solid pilots to gel from the new gereration. only 5-10 have really done that.

my top 7 new players looks something like this:
(attending lans playing a large factor)

fatal
monkey
krom
neutrino
kal-el
wakeman
crown

im still wondering why ryu is #3? dt and ryu were near identicle in skill. they played eachother quite a bit in 1v1. so either dt needs to move up or ryu needs to move down. imo.

while suncho is being nice, im gonna advocate for him to be right up under fatal. kufyit never was the force he was in d1 or d2.

What set of criteria defines how good a player is? Is it a lot of kills (regardless of how many deaths)? Is it how high a players kill/death ratio is?

When I play, I usually am in the top 3rd in kills for that game. That would make me a fairly good player (against todays players) viewed against the first criteria. However, I usually get as many deaths as I do kills. That would mean I am not very good if veiwed against the second criteria.

In my own opinion, I am mediocre at best.

My point is, you have to define the criteria by which player are being judged before any list like this can mean much.

A good player by my definition is someone who is always flexible and can do more then one thing to win a game, for instance if all you do is spawn kill someone to get kills your not as flexible at least in my opinion.

Also, there are some who are good at anarchy and some who are better at 1v1's most of the people on that list will generally do amazing at any type of mod (some better then others) so whoever you think is the best is usually going to depend on how well they handle themselves in a game.

That would be a bit difficult as some players pop in and out from time to time (I.E People like monkey, Krom and Crown) But i might look into it.

Unless they fly under an alias, I don't think I have flown against any of those three. Then again, I can't stand any viens level so maybe that's why.

my top 7 new players looks something like this:
Bah, your definition of "new" includes players that anyone who played for the past 2 years would consider old. Fatal won the very first D3 tournament, and as far as I know never played after 2002. Krom was awesome in 1999, maybe earlier. That's old any way you look at it. Kal-El is the newest of those, as he didn't hit his prime until late 2003-early 2004, but the rest were all established forces by 2002 for sure. To me, the new generation would be players who weren't really recognized as powerhouses until 2004.

If I were to make a list of skill, I would look at all-around ability. 1v1's, anarchy, team anarchy, defense in CTF, flag running ability, use of each weapon and secondary, the other mods, etc. Too many skilled players are one or two trick ponys. Take away fusion and MD and they're toast.

Dedman, kills (KPH) vs. kill/death ratio are essentially the difference between anarchy and a wide margin in TA. Someone can have an 80% efficiency in anarchy and still be easily beaten by someone with a low 50's eff because they got to the kill goal first. In TA, having a high efficiency can help especially because that means the other team is not boosting their team score as much due to your dearth of deaths. Which is more important is up for debate.

Also, it would be hard to know who Krom, Crown and Monkey were unless you were used to flying against them and could identify their styles. They generally favored Halcyon over any Veins level, though they could be seen in there on occasion.

Note that it would be difficult to see crown anywhere since he doesnt have descent installed. :P

I am so in the dark its not even funny. I play in the evenings and except for just two or three names, I don't see any of the other names playing...in anyones list.

Are these people retired? or play in some other servers that I don't go to? :? :? :?

You've answered your own questions. Most of them are retired, and the ones that aren't either play under alias or don't play in levels like Subway Dancer.

Do you play Vamped, Hash Bash, Pulling Teeth, Burning Indika 3, Bill the Cat, or Athena? Those are more the type of levels you'd find the top 20 players in.

The only games I see at night (EST) are Subway, Varicose, Skybox, Stadium, Ascent, and sometimes Indika. I play them all except Indika because I find that too boring. The rest you guys listed I rarely or nvr see played.

Off topic, but tonight I played Koolbear. :) A real name I see on the DBB.

Heh. That's a sad list if I'm rated anywhere higher than # 20...

On another topic: You forgot the "Specialists". You know who I mean, right? Varicose Veins/Phoenix/MD-only pilots, stadium/phoenix/vauss-only pilots, etc. Some of those guys will rape you in their chosen level, and you never, ever, EVER see them out of it (okok, probably because they stink with any other level/ship/weapon).

You should do some "Specialists lists"

;)

This is such mental masturbation. There's no real way to quantify this stuff. Also, you're forgetting so many awesome pilots. My homey Rook will wipe the floor with half your list. And what about Hemp? I could go on and on...
