I use a Saitek st290 pro. Thoguh i wouldn't reccomend it... it likes to randomly recalibrate itself... Which is a pain...

Yeah, they quit making them, but you can still get them off ebay, and replacement switches are cheap when you buy them by the hundreds.

Microsoft Sidewinder Precision Pro 2 (USB). That's the best stick I've ever used and hope I can keep using it for a very long time.

Gravis Phoenix - 4 axes and 24 Buttons - one can be configured as Switch button, so you have 46 Actions in total - the best Joystick I know - never found anything better.

For the past few years, I've used a Saitek Cyborg Evo. Even though I'll keep using it for other games, thanks to Grendel's converter, I can now bring my trusty old Microsoft Sidewinder 3D Pro out of retirement for Descenting.

Out of gathering information and much thinking, I have ordered directly from the Saitek online store a Saitek Cyborg Evo as of this past Monday.
I got the peripheral from the Saitek store rather than Newegg mainly because it was cheaper in total by about $3. Sure it seems a small amount, but every bit counts. It arrives at my doorstep Tuesday and I am eagerly awaiting it.
Before then I have been flying keyboard only for 8 years, and am not bad with it. I know that a joystick will be a useful addition to my computer seeing as how Descent isn't the only flight game I play.

Cyborg 3D Gold USB.
It's going on 4 years old now. No slop no nothing. Best 30 bucks I've spent. And no. I haven't snapped the trigger off. How the heck do you guys do that? it would take over 40 pounds of pressure to break one. I've tried.

Ive sen how some people fly around here, like trained monkeys...mostly without the training 
I dont understand how people snap the stick on the FF-Pros, ive dropped a dresser on it, on accident of course, nuffin happened, hat switch is the only thing Ive ever had trouble with

-MS Sidewinder Precision Pro (Gameport version, so I had to buy a crappy sound card to get the port)

I have Saitek X52 Flight Control System USB. It is really greatest control for Descent series, FreeSpace series, and Combat Flight Simulator series.
I have old Microsoft Sidewinder Force Feedback 2, it not works with Win XP...
I keep it for history.
And Sidewinder Precision Racing Wheel too, I don't control it much. Because I tried to look for a game. Mmm I idea, I named a game \"Microsoft Drive Simulator\" real like Flight Simulator.

Bash MS all you want for their $200-400 dollar OS options in a market with many alternatives that are free. But their game controllers were actually quite good and priced competitively for the most part.
