I had a power outage last night and a Sceptre 17\" LCD is not working today. It was about 2 years old and cost about $200 at Costco if I remember right.

Do they repair LCD's and would it be worth the money?

If it is still under warranty call up and see.

If it's broken, it's not worth repairing.

First it's out of warranty.

Now the question is what suggestions do you have for a UPS?

I have a couple belkin 1500va units, they have repelled many a power outage. (Joke is, once you get battery backups, the power quits going out.)

pop it open as the warrenty has expired. could be just the internal fuse has popped (usally glass)2nd most common problem is a capacitor has blown, you may need a meter to check this.

with luck will only cost a few pence to get working again.

That's worth a try since I haven't set out by the curb yet.
And I'll ck into the Belkins.

The APC units are quite nice as well, and have some serious warranty coverage. Just don't bother with their \"trade up\" program seeing as what they would charge you to trade in your old UPS, you could buy a brand spanking new one in retail for cheaper. (not even counting s/h!)

100$ gets me a TrippLite SMART1000LCD at the local Costco. Got three on different comps, never had a problem w/ outages ever since... ;)
