Quick query for those in the know - my eldest son is interested in 3d animation / CGI / game animation for a future career.

This is a little bit outsdie my field (advertising / marketing / graphic design is more my thing) & I'm unsure where to send him.

Can anyone refer me to some good web sites / online references / 3D programms that would suit an amateur/beginner? It would need to give him a solid grounding in the basics and an easily transferrable skillset when it comes time to get serious?

All suggestions welcome. Thanks all! :)

free also = http://www.turbosquid.com/gmax - but you must use the registry workaround available on their site- the app. won't properly register anymore.

This is what I learned on..
