I have more than one too, but Mr. Rogers is at the top.

Never in my life had one. I'm not aware of anyone who personifies my ideals, either. One day, perhaps.

I don't idiolize anyone. No one should. Puts that person in a pedastal and that is not where they should be.

Or you look up to them and improve your life to match theirs :) I play so much better now, and if it wasn't for Eicca Toppinen, I probably would have quit the cello.

Red, that's someone who is inspiring. Melin is quite correct. Our western culture has "dumbed down" the meaning of "idol". An Idol is somethning you worship that has no real power. I think the way we use it today was coined around the Beatles and them being "teen idols". Kids were worshiping them. Following them from town to town for months at a time while they were on tour. It got crazy. (ask your folks) although I think it's fair to say that Elvis achieved "Super star" status before the Beatles did.

p.s. Keep playing the Cello, it's a cool instrement. :)

Nobody should be idolized, not even GOD. Looking up to certain people for good values is one thing. I don't think I'd look up to any single person as many have dawned this planet and left a good mark.

Clive Owen. I don't idolize him, but I think he's cute and sexy. I first noticed him in the game Privateer 2, the Darkening. It's nice to see him in some recent movies :)

Hmmm... Too many definitions of \"idol\" but to clarify I chose my person based on this meaning: A person who is greatly loved or admired.

I think he refers to the creation of images of the aforementioned.

I think there is a certain view of how the word idol is interpreted these days, thanks to shows like american idol, in the manner of way that show is popular, the same mannerism isn't appropriate when applied to God, who would be greater than just an idol, an idol being representative of something worshiped instead of God, you cant worship God instead of God thus it is a self-nullifying statement.

Or something.

How about changing the topic title to something more like, "Who do you admire/love?" (You can do that by editing the title of the first post.)

-----------

For me, the answer would be my younger brother. As siblings we get really competitive, and we have our disagreements, but I honestly admire him. He's one of the most selfless people I know; he spent a couple of years after high school studying for and doing missions work in places like Dominican Republic, New Zealand, and Ghana.

Maybe it's odd coming from an older sibling (yep, I used to pull all the usual tricks on him when we were young, hehe), and I'm probably an inch taller... but I still look up to my younger bro. :)
