[Request for Kevin?] Fake or not?

I once downloaded some unofficial pictures of Descent3 before it was released and people were not sure whether they're original or fake.

Today I'd like to know if D3 ever looked like this:

Since Kevin worked for Outrage, he should know it. I just can't imagine why the main menu should look that different from what we've got today (also, 0.8 --> 1.0 isn't a big distance).

By the way, I've also got a picture of a concept for a robot, released with the picture above (but this must be an original):

the bottom one I've seen before and if memory serves, it was released by Outrage. It was part of the concept art.
**EDIT**
If you look at the bottom right hand corner you will see the name Dan McMillan. He was one of the team's arts. Proof HERE

He's also Here at Cosmic Origins

Dan did a number things on the D3 project. One of which was the large CED ship .. oh.. what the heck was it called .. interceptor, intrepid .. something.. That was some of his work.

***incidentally the \"Story\" section on the D3 wiki entry could use a little cleaning up. It's a bit vague and sloppy and not 100% accurate.***

And yeah, duh it's the bot from the lab. :P

The top one I've not seen before, the font and such did change between the demos and official release. A lot of the Gui art changed from demo to gold.

(HERE is an interesting write up on D3 by Space cat)

Awesome! I have never seen the menu before and i haven't seen the bot either, but it does look familiar. The raptor bot. It is the bot that attacked Dr. Swietzrrrr-- Dr Sweittrzrrrr... DR. WHODOYOUCALLIT! You also find them lying around in level 3. Dead.

2nd pic I've seen before. The bot is actually the ones on level 1 near the end. They are green and small. Hard to spot.

Actually, I'm pretty sure that concept art is from/of a cut scene in Descent 3 that depicts the lab equipment gone bad in a PTMC laboratory.

Heh, I think I found the answer in the internet archive ( www.archive.org ) - the first picture is a fake. Unfortunately, I've lost the link, but I'll post it as soon as I find it.

I remember seeing the menu pic way back in like 1998 or so, before the demos even came out. IIRC it was declared fake at the time.

Yeah, it's from 1997.

I don't think Kevin pays much attention to this section... I'll mention it to him tomorrow if I remember, or you could try PM'ing him.

They did an impressive work on the artwork but not computer graphics.

Too bad. I think that menu looks way better than the actual D3 menu.

The menu in the Demo looked a bit different too. If you haven't ever tried the demos, I highly recommend it. There are a lot of differences between the release and the demos. .. that and you get to play a slightly different Picco station! ;) (lvl 4 iirc)
