What are the symptoms, and how old is the bird.

Parakeets are notorious for tumors at an old age. The growth sometimes starts on the feet.

Sorry to hear about your sick bird.
Have you scanned the web for parakeet health issues?

Last night - both birds were fine, we have Two. Male (Petre) and a Female (Flurry). They were just in their cage doing their thing, chasing eachother around, playing..

Noticed that she was at the bottom of the cage, which is not totally out of the ordinary. but then noticed later that she was still down there, and seemed to be struggling.

I thought maybe she hurt her foot, so I took her out, and she keeps turning her head ALL the way around to the right, and is trying to go to the right, but her right leg just isn't \"working\".

I set her on the floor and she just spins in circles and keeps twisting her head around.

I honestly thought she would die over night - i did some research but couldn't find much of anything except \"Call your Vet\" - none of course were open at the time.

So I put her back in her cage last night in a small bowl so she can somewhat relax - and i figured she might die over night.

I got up this morning and she was still there.. still struggling to stand up..

Left a message with a Vet to see what we can do - some think she had a Stroke.

Im not so much sad as the kids will be. They love the birds.

That is sad to hear. Always sad when a pet gets old.

She wasn't old. Just 4 years. parakeets usually live to be 15. End of the story, she was euthanized today.

I'm so sorry. Losing a pet really hurts. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

Oh, please. Thought he might get a little giggle out of it.

I wasn't raised in sensitive-pansy-land, it woulda cheered my buddies up.

I did have a dog, but I shot it in the head when he went blind and got arthritis. Animals are freakin animals. Not people. I ride the horse, it doesn't ride me. I walk the dog. It doesn't walk me. They have NO SOULS, their emotions are superprimative, and they exist as machines to serve and feed us. If nobody gave emotional empowerment to them there'd be no crying.

SilverFJ, are you psychotic? You don't seem to have any empathy. Some higher animals are thought to have emotions, even birds, because of their intelligence. Elephants have been seen crying or grieving when under stress or especially after the death of an individual in the herd.

Don't clean it up Lothar. It's important to know where people here stand, right out in black and blue for all to see. But it's starting to creep towards E&C.

Hmm, yeah, thread split might be necessary. I doubt the original poster really wanted this sort of stuff here.

Well, a little sensitivity for others is appropriate. This is not the place to debate. Take it else where. It is always sad to lose a pet. That's what this thread is about.

I'm such a horrible human being, spending my day taking care of my infant son instead of checking in on the DBB.

Bee…WTF is your problem? All I did was laugh at Isaac’s joke about his health insurance. I’m going blind, and I feel like that’s what the government wants to do to me (shoot me in the head)…get it?

Then you use my name in association with a quote from SilverFJ…you have some serious problems!

Animals are souls, just like humans.

I suggest getting a new bird. While they are beloved as pets, birds are not equal the value of humans.

I'm disappointed at you Bee...

Using this somber thread to voice your disappoints at others really isn't called for.

Hey guys, I'm sorry, already. Being psychotic or malicious wasn't my intent, I was just trying a buddy-poke. Like I said, with me and my buddies, we aren't a very sensitive crowd, they woulda got a kick out of it if it was their bird.

...And about shooting my dog, and animals having no souls, I grew up on ranchland slaughtering/and or hunting animals all the time, and now I work seasonally, as well, as a comercial fish processing foreman, where I have no idea how many hundreds of thousands of creatures I've put down. Try and imagine animals with souls after that. I'd be a regular Hitler.

Of course you're not a Hitler. No one thinks that! Hunting and killing for food is perfectly okay. For sport, not so good, but to eat, is fine.

Of course, joking about eating someone's dead pet as a joke could be considered bad taste. And a bad pun :D
