What is the maximum number of chin ups you can do, if you were fully rested and in front of an installed standard-issue chin up bar!?!??!!...3....

If I do it with proper form, maybe 5. Probably 4.
If I spread my arms a little, I think I can do 8-10. It's been a while - I'm stronger now, but gave also gained 20lbs.

I used to be able to do about 20, when I was in shape from fencing multiple times a week.
Probably only 4-5 right now.

wow... I can only do 3 at the moment... I am a big wuss.

There is no reason for me to pull my whole body up with my arms.

Yeah, that's what I say too. Especially since I can break the rules of the matrix with antigravity ^_~

Er... hm. I actually had to look this up, for some reason I thought it was lifting your weight with your chin, which I thought would be a bit of a bastard.
But actually I haven't tried this recently. I'll have to attempt it next time I'm at the gym and see how far I get...

To help with my low chin-up numbers I've started using the \"assisted chin-up\" machine at the gym. Normally I just use dumbbells, a treadmill, and a few others, off and on through-out the week for the past year. I think adding the \"assisted chin-up\" machine should target mussels that weren't being worked out before.

Depends on body weight…20 was my regular target during the time I was working out (160 lbs)…today I would probably tear a tendon or something.
Oh, and I used to do them palms forward.

I never could do nearly as many that way. Much tougher.

Why can't women post in this thread about how many chin-ups they can do?
What is the maximum number of chin ups you can do, if you were fully rested and in front of an installed standard-issue chin up bar!?!??!!...
You wasted about 2 seconds of your life. You should have just asked the maximum number of chin-ups we can do. If you wanted some kind of relative maximum, then you could explain the part about rest and the chin-up bar. ^_~
That guy needs some Rogaine maybe? o_o

I havent done and pull up's in 35 years. I could do 10-15 then but I was only 175 lbs. now I'm 50 and 272 lbs, but I do go to the Gym and weight lift 3 times a week. dumbell presses. fly's, leg presses, and so forth. I dont dare do weighted squats because of my back.

I have great arm and leg strength but my core is in terrible shape from drinking too much dark beer and my cardio endurance is about as bad as a pack-a-day smoker on account of being a lazy couch potato. I'm getting back into running though so hopefully that'll get better.

I'm 17 and I did 20 and died later that day.
It helps when you do fencing and bowling so you have strong arms.

Code: Select all
av=[]
one_arm_chinups=[6,7]
for x in one_arm_chinups:
av.append((x*5)+x)
print "Your estimated regular chinup number is %s." % (int(sum(av)/2))

I'd like to see your formula for converting single arm chin-ups to double. Clearly someone who can do several single arm chin-ups can do many many more double armed chin-ups.

Chuck doesn't do pull ups. He pulls the floor away from himself. With his mind. And he only stops when the floor gets too tired and asks for mercy.

A very long time ago, I could do 15. I don't think I've even tried since those days, so I don't know how much that number has gone down...

o ^_^
Well if it helps, I have the POWAH of anti-gravity (in the Matrix, at least), so I don't have to do pull ups.
