I might say it's your ISPs DNS on the fritz.

If IE says DNS error, it can actually be any number of things. The ones I can think of for HTTP sites are Host Not Found or Connection Refused. Several FTP site errors translate into DNS error in IE (basically if any problem prevents IE from getting to the server, it will spit out DNS error).

Double-check Tools\Internet Options\Connections and check dial-up and/or LAN. Doesn't AOL's browser use IE anyways?

Could be some sort of outside  AOL force  acting upon us too that would be beyond the scope of our knowledge.

You check to see if www.descentbb.net is in your hosts file? (windows/system32/drivers/etc if using 2000/XP, /Windows if 9x/Me, use notepad to open it)

If its in your hosts file, comment it out or delete it.

I'm not all that familiar with the AOL browser, but isn't it set to totally ignore the hosts file and use its own DNS?

And you say this like it's an actual problem! :P

FIREFOX 0.8 is the answer you are looking for.

Hmmm...anyone got the "STFU Mobius" pic? :P

It continually amazes me how some people obsess over getting any browser but Internet Explorer. To me, IE is the best option. It's pre-installed, so I don't have to search all over the Internet and download some massive file to get a new one. It has instant compatibility with any website out there. Most of all, however, it allows me to get online and move from webpage to webpage, which is all I need in a browser. You can have all your fancy peripherals; I'm sticking with plain old IE, and I'm damn proud of it :D.

I used to be stuck on using only Navigator and refused to try IE, but nowadays I wouldn't use anything but IE. :)

But in response to the original post, I have no idea what else could help other than what some of these guys have already said.

To quote a friend of mine:

Browsing the internet using IE is like eating food you found on the street. It might be convenient, but you'll likely end up contaminated in the end.

Anyway... my DNS often has trouble with descentbb.net but not www.descentbb.net, or vice versa. Have you checked to see if you get this same problem?

MobiTroll© is the Spokesman and Poster child for "The Underdogs", It's his jobs to push inferior products and services. :P

But for SG&G I would download any of the browsers located at Mozilla.org. Firefox is a good suggestion, out of all the bloated browsers there. If it runs then it is a IE setting.

I would suggest that you check IE/tools/internet options/connections/highlight aol in the dialup dialog click settings and make sure auto detect proxy is checked

You are not really connected to the internet with AOL, you are connected to via Proxy to their Closed network. Any request for an external info must go through their content servers first for authentication before the info is obtained and sent to your computer. that's why AOL sucks

If both of these dont help, then you need to check your aol account settings for Parental Content Control Settings blocking the DBB (yes thanks to the NHB and the language in the normal forums the DBB is almost the same rating as a Porn site)

... in fact, Bubbalou was doing extensive statistical gathering of porn site ratings just to compare to the DBB ;)

It's funny that a guy who follows Mobius and AceCombat around and trolls everything they say would project his own trollness onto them. It's also funny he'd call Mobi a troll for suggesting firefox, and then turn around and suggest firefox. What a clown...

If you actually read his post Lothar, he actually suggested it as a TROUBLESHOOTING METHOD instead of trolling like Mobius. ;)

Getting back on topic:
64.71.171.45 www.descentbb.net
Add this line to your hosts file and see that happens.
