If you enjoy switching your brain off when playing a game, it is awesome. Visually impressive, fast gameplay, megalomanic tendencies... Most awesome during LAN parties (heheh Vertigo :D) but a no-brain-required game.

In addition, some of the Boss encounters can be pretty tough.

There are a few secret places to find, but it's mostly lots of ammo v. lots of baddies. Some humor - it doesn't take itself too seriously (despite the game's title ;) )

UT2004 is also a good brain killing game....

but some strategy is required for the onslaught mode. otherwise its fun fraggin the s*** out of people

Try playing it against any semi-serious player, you'll swiftly think otherwise :)

I think between Unreal Tournament and Quake, Quake tends to be the more melee-oriented of the two. I've always thought there was a bit more strategy to Unreal Tournament than Quake 3. Unreal's weapons all have alternate fire modes and are highly versatile, whereas in Quake 3, it's more like "This weapon is clearly more powerful than that weapon, so use it."

Serious Sam is like a throwback to those old Doom levels where the author put you in a square box with armies of baddies inside and you just had to blast them mindlessly. It's great fun, for a while at least. :)

Fixed. Personally I think Q3 weapons are really well balanced, assuming you know what situations require what weapons. For short range use the lightning gun (or more commonly the shotgun). For long ranges with people with high HP use the rail. For pinging people use the machinegun. Rockets are useful for other things.

Granted if you don't have good aim you'll rely more on the spray and pray weapons (i.e. rocket/shotgun), but when I'm playing Rocket Arena, I see pretty much every weapon being used at some point in time. It's just that a majority of the time is "two shots with the rail takes him out" and people have some deadly accuracy, so they use that.

For mindless killing to the most extreme form, I recommend nothing else. Bathed in eyecandy sculptered in DukeNukem goodness. this is the zenith. ;)

seriously tho ... hehee .. it's a lot of fun. There is a rocket launcher at the bottom of the pool you start in.

This is great for LAN coop. The weapons are brutally over powered in a most delicious way. the GE mini gun is my favorite.
