Wow. I've never played Freespace before, but that makes me want to.

Got the original and sequals. Played em all at least 3 times each. On of the best flight sims out there. Wish they had a modern version with update graphics.

Actually, they do. The FS2 Source Code Project has taken the open-sourced game engine and added a crap-load of new features to it, and along with that, the community has upgraded most of the original game's models/textures/effects. The end result is something that almost looks like it could have rolled off the store shelves a year or two ago. I think this thread has the best instructions for installing all the enhancements, but it's still a bit convoluted if you're not familiar with things, so I can try to clarify stuff if anyone wants to give it a try.

I just reinstalled Freespace 2 the other day with the new updates and everything, and I got to say, its still as awesome as ever and it really does still look great with the new updates.

Last I checked, soft shadows for FSO were in the making. 8)

The amount of work done on that project is absolutely amazing.

Very nice. Next time I play Freespace, I'll definitely try FSO.

FreeSpace Open is a really great source port I've played. You should download and install it, MDs!
