Hello From The Old GameEdit.com Guy

Hey!!!

It's been about 7 years since I posted here last. I can't believe people are still playing Descent - that is so awesome!!!

I'm an old-timer probably - I started the D3 editing site GameEdit.com probably 10 years ago. It was the first editing site devoted to D3. All the tutorials are still at my own personal website (schplurg.com), though I'd imagine they're pretty out of date.

Me and Starkiller designed an Earthshaker mod back then, and a few levels (Earthshaker something ummm, Two Worlds, and Mad Science). My D3 experience eventually led to bigger things, now I design games for the iPhone (Daredevil Dave: Motorcycle Stutman!). I still have D3 installed, though I wouldn't know how to get online anymore.

Anyways, just thought I'd say hey. Can't believe my login still works here.

Anyone old pals who wanna reach me can do so at mdigitalmedia.com

Cheers!

Welcome back. If you want to play D3, there is a tutorial in the Multiplayer section.

Geez! All the old Descent pilots are coming out of the woodwork!

AND JUST IN TIME FOR RETROVIRUS! :)

BTW, I just learned the newest Alpha build has Joystick support!

I don't think I ever knew you personally, but I sure as hell recognize the name. :)

Yep I've heard of you. If it wasn't for Gameedit, I wouldn't have been able to do the little level design work that I did manage to do in D3 (crappy as it was) and the *final* Army of Haloon set would be one level and many robots shorter.

Ah! I definitely remember those D3Edit tutorials. I bet if I looked real hard in my room, I could find the pages I printed out of them. :)

Hey Sky!!!!! You must be an Elder here for sure by now! For those who don't know, Skyalmian is responsible for reposting all of the old GE tutorials, which are still up. Do people still use them?

Wish I could find Frank/Starkiller!

I'm thinking that Mobius and Merlin are names from my days. There was a Merlin for sure. Maybe from the D3Edit site? My memory is fuzzy on Mobius, wait...aw well it's coming back to me!

I'm making mobile games now as a one man dev...would be cool to try a D3 type game for iOS/Android! Could be pretty damn hard to play though. Only the "cool kids" could handle playing D3 becasue of the true 3D enviro and controls ;)

My current work in progress is Daredevil Dave 2, in case anyone is interested. It's a 3D motorcycle stunt game where you're an Evel Knievel type character jumping over things and breaking bones, being set on fire etc. It's hilarious too.

Website sucks but oh well:

It's far from complete so I'm not trying to sell it here hah. Just saying I guess that goofing around with Descent for years ended up helping me tremendously in becoming a game developer - in case anyone else is curious about game dev as a career. I sold my first iPhone game at 42 years old, so you're never too old. Designed it in my living room. I had a lot of other crap jobs in between but I ended up full circle back to games, and I'm doing better than ever, by far :)

Awesome that D3 is still around. I can't believe I got 9 replies (or any haha).

I still have my joystick!

I'm planning on taking up the tutorials again sometime soon because I have been wanting to get into D3 level editing again. Never released anything though because I've been much more comfortable with D1 and D2 level creation.

Hey Schplurg! Don't know that I ever played you (probably did), but I'm a big fan of your Earthshaker, and the gameedit site was the best place to download missions once upon a time!

So, are you guys going to get back together and bring the Earthshaker to Retrovirus? ;)
