no wonder that we already lost so many players and rarely get new ones, when you guys stomp on every player who has a noob-question.

guess no one of you super-ice-cool suckers would have the balls to ask a noob question in a different game-community

ah yes, pxo is down, lots of the server switch to tcp/ip then. get the list here:

http://d3.descent.cx/tracker.d3

an alternative chat-channel where lots of the guys hanging is here:

(irc, mirc or another client):

server: irc.shadowfire.org
port: 6667
channel: #Descent

or go here (mostly nub there, but public):

Sorry to get this thread back on topic, but...:P
If this continues, we should try getting back in touch with Mark[V]. He was able to help us when pxo.net was down, so he might know what's going on now. Then again, this could be another one of those "never fails" PXO outages :P.

by Grendel
Well, couple of things. Mark[V] is not working at Volition anymore, he accepted a new job in LA (GL Mark !!). Rory took over PXO responsibility from him, here's the latest scoop:
Rory wrote: PXO is down. We're restructuring our network here right now, and we're
moving offices next week.

At this point it would be a tremendous drain of IT and potentially
programmer resources to get all of the PXO computers to work here. We'll
look at it again after we move.

Sorry :(

It's nice to hear a response from them, even if the news is not so good :(. Oh, well. I guess we'll just have to tough it out until Volition gets re-settled.

P.S. Good luck to Mark. He was a huge help to the entire D3 community :D.

Grendel wrote:Thanks for the information, I'll relate it to the D3 community via the DBB (will use this
thread: phpbb/viewtopic.php?t=2001 ). Earliest we could
have PXO back (if ever..) would be end of next week ? I remember there was talk of
turning the PXO domains & code over to the community, would that be an option ?

Thanks again for your efforts !
Rory wrote:I'll talk with someone about turning the domains and source over. Sorry for
the outage, it was unavoidable. We may still host them here yet. I'll be
sure to keep you informed.

Volition's new building is awesome. I saw it when it was under construction last year.

Grendel, pass on that the FS2 source project would also be keenly interested in getting ahold of that code.

Kevin B was supposed to be working on getting it released. If another dev type, especially a [V] dev type, is advocating it, that would be awesome.

:o "Earliest we could have PXO back (if ever..) would be end of next week?"

Well, that "if ever" part sucked. I know it's an old game and the service is a cost for Volition, but it still sucks. It's worse than no update to D3 and no follow-on series for it. Oh, I don't consider Freespace Descent.

I appreciate Volition continuing the service as they did and would not want to see it go.

I also appreciate those running private servers. Hopefully the ping and loss will not be so bad now that more are up on TCP/IP.

 [TA]Server 208.19.91.122:2099 VV fo J-oh server, can you turn that into TCP/IP.

 GTW Server, go to TCP/IP dude.

It may only be a game but it is the only one I play. For that reason I keep my AMD/Win98/VooDoo5500 machine running just for D3.

How do you say sweating it out in an emoticon.

Oh well, I can download as many aftermarket singleplayer levels as I can before they disappear, but they don't quite compare to multiplayer.

Freespace 2 on pxo

8) I would like to add our concern for the future of Freespace2 on pxo. There are many people who still enjoy playing FS2 on pxo. Our squad Darkwing has many active pilots that still play FS2 on pxo. Indeed, Interplay recently released 2000 copies of FS2,to commemorate their anniversary, so there are also some new people who have bought the game, expecting to be able to play muliplayer on pxo, only to find that pxo isnt working.
Mark used to fix pxo quite quickly when he was told of a problem, but as we do not know Rory's email we cannot contact him....so if anyone does know who we can contact to discuss the future of FS2 on pxo then please let us know, post on our forum, which is on our site at www.darkwing-squad.com
thankyou...

I'll keep it in mind. And sorry guys, I won't disclose Rory's email since he's the PXO admin not a developer or Volition polititian -- no need to swamp him w/ requests he can't do anything about.

you obviously missed my sarcasm aswell. i was making a joke referencing Full Metal Jacket and Private Pyle making the "left shoulder on the right shoulder mistake and Sgt. Hartman was making sure he knew his directions after that.

Already got two PM's basically saying the same thing -- that's exactly what I mean by "swamping w/ requests" :P

I'll maintain contact and relay your info but I'll do it at a pace that I think is appropriate -- I'm not going to hassle people while they are moving w/ questions & requests about something that is very low on their priority list..

Remember, patience is a virtue ;)

This Really Sucks ...

For the last year I couldn't hardly give a rat's @$$ about playing D3 but now ... I finally get the desire to play ... PXO is down for days upon end ... most likely permanently?

Sorry? Hell I am sorry to inform you (anyone affialiated with PXO) that I will never spend a damned dime on your products again ...

Well, the new game I play mostly (Halo), having to deal with Gearbox and their 6 month "no comments", those who run pxo are customer service gods.

I'd spend 5000 dimes to play the new descent installment made by the people at pxo (interplay, parallax, volition...et al).
customer service with d3 has been stellar.

the game I've been enjoying lately has amazing support (Rise of Nations by BigHugeGames).
