I'm still alive!

Well, there might be some new faces here, even some old ones.

Some might remember me as my old user name PTMC_Def as my codename in the Descent series when I played D1 - D3. But some older guys may just know me from ym personal user name Mario (either as N64Mario, or GCNMario). If anyone can recall my canceled WIP project for Descent 2, which was a D3 inspired project called Alpha Strike. before I left the scene as PTMC_Def, but still many new faces around here, I doubt it.

There was only one person I remember from the Descent scene. Deathwinger. I knew him from the good ole Mugen mods like the D2 Mod, Plutonian Outbreak (I think was the name). only contacted him via ICQ since he doesn't hav the other contact programs IIRC.

I just recently came back to ask a few questions. However, I did notice some of my descent links are not working anymore. Could be some fan sites, or sites that left the descent scene. Some of the 'broken' links I am referring to include:
http://www.descent3.net/
http://www.weenie.com/descent/maneuver.shtml
http://www.interplay.com/descent/descent.html - I was sure this was an officla site that would always be running.
http://www.pyroport.com/ - Whoa this used to be a descent website.
http://www.descent3.org/
http://www.planetdescent.com/xtremebuilder/ - Wow, an old descent project site I remember. At least the main site is still running. But not the project.

That's not even half of the descent links I collected over the years. I am surprised that lot of the links I have still work let alone still in the community. Those are the ones I have that are broken.

If anyone knows if they moved or just left the scene, let me nkow so I can just remove them from my favorites or update the links or whatever.

Anyway. I was more into the programming for other engines and played lot of video game emulation. Much for video game fan websites and fighting game engines. I've been hanging around the mugen scene, if anyone knows that fighting game engine, you know what I'm talking about.

So, I'd just like to know who is new and whos old, just to see how much the community has grown over the years.

LOL, I sound like a n00b here. But I've played Descent 2 and D3 before in my younger teenage years, but I haven't been playing it in the past couple of years. I was mainly focusing on video game and fighting game engines, as well as surfing the net for new emulation progress... But since this is not the place to discuss it, I won't go into full detail about it.

I realised lot of new D3 mods and levels have been made over the years, but I never get chance to look at them. Occasionally I check this site for D3 levels etc.
http://www.gameedit.com/

Also, since there isn't much any competition going on anyway. I thought I just check things out and all. Just to check out the boards, to see whos still playing the games. Just hanging out see what's going on in the community. :)

Love and Peace, ya'll! :D

Wow, some n00b I am lol. (>_<)

Sorry, I trying to find the right areas for these things, but it's kinda confusing after you forget what the areas are for.

Okay go ahead and move it to the right area then.

I remember N64Mario. :D

With no word regarding a Descent 4, the community is slowly but surely shrinking. The amount of new maps being created has leveled off (no pun intended), PXO is broken, and it is becoming increasingly difficult to find Descent 3 at stores.

Xtremebuilder dissolved around the time Olympia Gold 3 released. Theoretically, it "merged" with Orbital Design Studios, led by Valin Halcyon, which isn't working on Descent-related projects now. At last check, they seem to have restored the Nutrinopets web site, a sort of Internet tamagotchi game a la Neopets. I don't think Deathwinger has much to do with Orbital anymore.

Pyro Port is now a general technology site. PotzUK still updates it from time to time.

Bama's Descent3.Net was at some point amalgamated into PlanetDescent, but the proejct fell by the wayside.

Interplay changed their web site layout a long time ago and deleted a lot of the original Descent content that the late Robert Berzins had put together. Interplay has fallen on hard times. The State of California closed their offices last week. Dravis: "Pending li-ti-gation."

This is me from a very long time ago. Before I left the scene under this name.

I'm not really surprized no one knows me since there are some new faces, some who have somehow left the scene. I would have figured as much. ;)

LOL, I even forgot my password for this account.

So, since PXO is gone, or broken (:?) How do people play D3 online? Or is the server still up but not many people stll play it?

LOL, My complete collection of descent links just got halfed since a lot of the fans left the scene or took down the website.
It's kinda amazing, but true, once you think about it. In my old times, Descent used to be a big hit. Now it seems to me that it's just all going downhill. No offense, but it is just something I noticed. The way I looked at it, with all the new mods/utilities and everything being made/released, I thought it would stay up for a while. But I guess some games have their down times.

BTW when I noticed some of the users joined dates is around the year 1969. Is that even accurate? Because I didn't think Descent existed until the 90's let alone 80's. But I could be wrong.

Also, is ZappaFan's website still up? The one I used to have doesn't work anymore. But I still see his little forum hangout area.

If it says "registered date 1969" that just means we registered before it started keeping track, so it defaults to the oldest date the system allows. Most of those registrations were in 1998.

ZappaFan's site has been down for quite a while, which is too bad. The forum here is still up, though.
