Hi,

I'm looking for a decent but not overly expensive router.

My modem/router's wifi is not reaching my living room because of to much interference from walls, etc.

This router would sit in my living room, be wired to my Modem/Router in my back room. I would then connect my TV, BluRay and Wii to it and then setup the wifi on it so we have coverage in the living room and the kid would have wifi in his room directly above the living room.

I've looked at routers from ASUS, Linksys, Netgear, TP-Link anbd read reviews on a bunch of them and sadly unless I spent 300$ I'm getting a shitty router. Hate reading reviews because it makes me not want that one because of 1 bad review.

Any suggestions?

I've had pretty good luck with Asus routers, currently on an AC2900 which replaced a much older AC-66U. Both units are suffering from having to deal with more than 60 active devices connected to them at any given time but hold up surprisingly well.

Sadly I don't want to fork out $250 for a router

what is your current router atm? if its compatible, open source firmware would let you boost the power, get more range that way. Also, where is it currently in relation to the rest of the house?

you could just look at wireless extenders too.

I've never had to spend more than $60 on a router, not sure where you're shopping but it's a rip-off. Sounds like you just need an access point. Netgear has a few devices that work as access points in the $50 range. Personally, I prefer routers with DD-WRT firmware so I would start my shopping HERE and check out prices on the pre-flashed ones.

I had an Amped Wireless extender. It didn't work. This was over 200 when my dad bought it.

I'm looking at the Dlink right now. On sale for 169. My condo is not very well setup for wifi due to walls, stairs, metal etc. My current router is also my modem from the ISP. So I need another router in the front of the house to have wifi at full strength there and upstairs in the kids bedroom

I realize that this is months after the fact, but I'm going to cast another vote for the Asus line. I set my folks up with a pair of their model 1750 routers, and they work flawlessly in their home! I say pair, because I have them setup in a mesh network, as my Dad wanted better reception in his pole barn/garage. Setting this up is very simple, provided you update the firmware on any router you decide to add to the chain! (The stock out-of-the-box firmware doesn't support it.) You should be able to find the 1750 for less than $100 USD no problem.

I bought a Dlink and it's working great.
